9-11 rememberance
Been ten years, hard to believe that long sometimes.
Here's a transcript of the FAA/USAF tapes of the hyjacks and how they were dealing with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYBhgEm3j7A
It's surprisingly quiet around town this morning, no planes in the air, one thing I remember about 9-11 most and brings back memories is not hearing or seeing a jet int he sky.
Maybe to keep this a bit upbeat, where were you during the attacks?
I was working for Lucent installing GPS units on Cell towers near Roanoke VA, heard it over the radio and got a stop all work call soon afterwards due to the demand on the cell services. Spent the rest of the day going tower to tower making sure our guys were off site then sitting in the hotel room watching TV until the TV commentators said to turn them off...

Re: 9-11 rememberance
I was actually sleeping, and my family came and woke me up once the first tower had been hit. Once I saw what was happening on TV, I remember telling my mom "this isn't over, the next tower is going to be hit" and less than 10 minutes later it was. God Bless those whose lives were truly changed by this event. The saying "We Will Never Forget" lasted some years, but it seemed our society had forgotten with their dislike of how our leaders were making decisions with War. No matter what politicians chose to go or stay, please do not forget what happened that day and why. May God truly Bless America.

Thanks for posting this. Jamie
My front yard today. Notice at the base of flagpole. A spin-off of the old Union Jack. "Don't tread on me."
Bought my Mom a 20' flagpole yesterday, and set it up this morning at the head of her drive for this day of rememberance. Had to give the concret 24 hours to cure.

Re: 9-11 rememberance
Just the mention of 911 brings back that hallow pit in my gut.
I'll never forget the people who were taken from their families & friends in such
a violent way.
I'd like to once again thank all of the people who helped during and after this horrific event
and the ones who continue to do so, including our furry friends

Re: 9-11 rememberance
I was driving a 96,000 dump truck/pup trailer loaded with gravel west on US 6. I had almost gotten to Pavers, Inc. in Waverly when the news came on KFAB radio. By the time I had dumped that load and was headed east back to Ashland, the second tower had been hit.

Re: 9-11 rememberance
i was delivering stuff to "musicians friend" warehouse and the receiving dept had internet. so i was getting frustrated because they weren't unloading my trailer and all gathered around the computers. i asked what was up and one guy told me to come over and see what was happening. i saw the second tower get hit live on the internet. i also remember what looked like big fish hooks in the sky from all the planes turning around to go land.
what a very strange day.
my thoughts and prayers to all those directly involved.

Re: 9-11 rememberance
I was in Chicago presenting a 5 day seminar. I remember we were on the first break when one of the participants came in and said there was small plane had hit the first tower. We started back up and immediately some one came in and said the second tower had been hit. We immediately stopped and everyone went to were they needed to talk to their family's and such. After about 45 minutes we met back up and I asked them if they wanted to move on or were they going to try to make it home. All said move forward so we started back up for the remainder of the training.
The training was at a Hotel by O'Hare and Sunday and Monday the plane noise was aggravating, after that it was too quiet. Then on Thursday night, if I remember, they started letting the planes that were coming in from a cross the Atlantic that had been diverted to Canada head to their destination. I heard a jet fly over and went to the window to see an airliner fly over escorted by two F-16 fighters, never thought I would see something like that in the USA.
I was supposed to fly home on Saturday and they were letting planes fly by then but my flight was canceled so I didn't get home until that Sunday.

Re: 9-11 rememberance
I was at work in Fairfield, NJ, only about 10 miles from NYC. I immediately tried to get in touch with my mother who worked across the street from the Empire State Building. I didn't hear from her until after noon. They evacuated her building and she was a part of the mass exodus to the down town area. If you remember news reports, thousands were streaming down town and no one spoke a word. They walked in complete silence. She didn't arrive back home to Mahwah until after 10pm. On a lighter side note, she and some friends from her work found a small pub and spent most of the day there trying to figure out what to do next. Even though it was a small pub, they served free drinks all day.
As insignificant as it seems, it was just another example of New Yorkers looking out for one another.
I saw what was going on from the Jersey side and try not to think about how I felt that day. It is very unnerving to watch so many fighter jets flying all over the skyline when you have no idea who, what, or why these attacks are happening. I just kept hoping all the jets were ours....

Re: 9-11 rememberance
I was working nights at the time. My wife came and woke me up.
The company i worked for had several government contracts at the time. Getting into work that night was a nightmare.
Security checks like none of us had ever seen.
I remember the no-fly times. How quiet the sky was, how eerily quiet the sky was.

Re: 9-11 rememberance
I walked into work at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC a few minutes after the first tower was hit. A bunch of the guys were crowded around a TV in one of the offices. I saw the second hit live on TV. They closed down the opera house and sent us home about the same time the first tower fell. Somebody told me it had fallen when I walked onto the street to get my car. I didn't believe him. The towers were about 4 1/2 miles from where I work so I could not see anything from the street. I walked very quickly to my car. I told the parking lot guy that I hoped I'd see him tomorrow and took of as fast as I could. The radio confirmed that one tower had fallen. Once out on the West side highway I put the hammer down and raced up the side of Manhattan. I was going about 80 mph! I wanted to get the hell of that island as quickly as possible. There was a constant stream of emergency vehicles headed South to the WTC. Just after I crossed the Harlem River into the Bronx they said that all bridges to Manhattan were going to be closed. A minute or two later, the second tower collapsed. I live about 40 miles from NYC and I was afraid that roads would be closed. So I drove as fast as I could, so that I could get as close to home as possible if more roads were closed and I had to walk. I changed onto the NYS Thruway and sped up to about 95 mph. A NYS Trooper came up behind me with lights and siren. I moved over one lane and he went right on past me. Once I got home we just watched the TV all day and night. I didn't go back to work in the city until the 13th. Things were very different in the city. Heavily armed police and military guarded the bridges and some buildings. Jet fighters circled overhead and there was that awful, acrid, burning smell for weeks. Who knows or even wants to know what that smell was! The people in NYC were a little kinder and gentler for a while too. I am thankful that I did not lose anybody close to me, but lots of people did that day.
