Escape tranny and Ford

Post by Mancar1 »

Well Ford wants to have The 2010 Escape for a week. They are going to tear down the tranny due to the jerky shift into 2nd that is occuring more ofter. They don't have a clue what it is at this time, but the tech claims he smells a funny order when driving it. I think he must have farted. I sure haven't smelled it. The tranny smell, not his fart. I am going to play the game of Fndthebdtrnyprt. Need the documentation in case they can't resolve it. Still under the Bumper-Bumper Warranty. At least I won't need a rental. I will drive the 68 all week. :D
The service manager told me the Escapes haven't been having a known tranny problem. I told him to log onto Escape City and check out some of the posts.

I have seen this concern a few times along with various other concerns with the new Escapes. I replaced the mechatronics unit (solenoid body/valve body) and flush the fluid very well and that seems to take care of the issue. Meaning none have come back. I have replaced quite a few of those tranny too for no reverse or melted clutches, they have all sorts of problems. Sounds like they don't deal alot in Escapes. I bet a mechatronics unit and a good flush would fix here right up.
Honestly, I really would rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy.

Thanks, I will mention that to them.

John,

I'm sorry that I saw this, but didn't have time to respond. Did you get your Escape back yet-and if so, what did they find in the tranny? I'd read the Escapes were having issues with the friction clutch discs as well as possibly a few other issues? :hmm:

I just put it in with Ford on Tues. The service rep said they would get it back to me next Monday or Tues. I was told they may replace the tranny. I told them to fix the problem as I do not want to end up with a new one with the same issue. That is if they can figure out what is wrong. I will mention the friction clutch to them. Thanks.

Ford called, on the way this morning to pick up my Escape. The Service Rep told me they rebuilt the entire tranny. Will let ya all know what all they did when I return. That tells me they had no clue as to the problem.

Yup, Ford did a entire rebuild on the tranny. New tranny at the 14,000 mile mark.

Have you had a chance to drive it much? Does it seem to shift different?
