I'm BACK!

Post by LANCE65 »

Well after quite awhile w/o a bump, I'm back. I just bought a very straight '70 F100 Custom longbed. It has a reman'd I6 and three on the tree. The vin says it came with a 240,but I am going to measure the stroke to verify. The three spd will be changed to a T18 once I find the right bellhousing.
The question I have is can a 'high hump' be adapted to the low hump floor by cutting out the center of the tunnel and bolting it (high hump) down? I plan on towing my BBQ trailer w/ it. I doubt I will ever tow anything heavy so an F100 will be just fine.
I will get pics up tomorrow...BTW I only paid $300 for it. NO RUST and one very small-dime size dent. I am glad to be back!

Great find!!

Yes, you can cut out your floorboard and bolt in a high-hump cover.

And the bellhousing for a T18 is the same as the one for a 3-speed, so it's pretty much a bolt-in installation.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Thanks guys. Today was a depressing day. I did a compression test and all cylinders were right at 145-150 EXCEPT #5=0. Wet or dry didnt matter. So I pulled the head and found the piston was broken/burned on one side of the crown. Add insult to injury the block has already been bored .060! and yes it's still a 240,so looks like now I will be looking for a 300 to swap in....anybody have one for sale :D

welcome back lance. sorry to hear about the block and piston.
oh, and cut that cneter hump out! it's easy. you can see the stampings for where the taps would go from the factory. just cut inside of them and secure the cover however you want.

Well after some thought, I remembered the radiator being low,so I went to check the cylinder, and there it was a CRACK! So I am just about to the point of partin it out. It hasnt been registered in 9 yrs. In Cali they are suppose to fall off record 4-7 years, not this one! it currently has $599 owed in back fees.
This is a total shame. I called Pick-a-Part and they cant even buy it from me w/o a title. I cant get a title w/o paying the back fees. So my options are:
1) I can pay the back fees and find a 300 OR 240
2) I can pay the back fees and strip my running/registered '77 F250 Supercab for the engine(351M),trans(T-18),power steering & power brakes then cut up the rest and scrap.
3)part out the truck...VERY nice sheetmetal
4) cut the truck up and scrap as 'scrap metal'
Too many options

Well, some new news. I got the '70 registered, turns out it had a 2011 sticker on it that someone stuck on there to either drive or sell or keep the nosy people out. So when I told DMV that it has a 2011 sticker they took the plate and made a photo-copy and waived all back fees and penalties! So instead of $600 + tax/transfer it was $130 out the door!!! :woohoo: :hd:
So now I am going to begin stripping the '77 Supercab of its engine/trans,power steering and column.

Man, that's a great feeling. Kinda like when you drag your old winter coat out at the beginning of the season and find a $20 bill in the pocket
