Man I need a garage
I've lived in an apartment for the last two years now and it has made working on my truck or any vehicle for that matter damn near impossible and my bump has suffered because of it. If not for Calfdemon allowing me to bring it to his place from time 2 time I wouldn't have as much done to it as there is. I pains me to have to see it the way it is now knowing it'd be fixed already if I had a garage. Anyone else know how I feel?

Re: Man I need a garage
about 8 or 10 years ago i moved to the big city (Victoria B.c.) and went thru what you are experiencing now ...
the only difference being that i didn't know anyone that didn't live in a crappy apartment like myself so i'd end up sneaking around trying to do repairs on the sly in the apartment parking lot...
after that didn't work out i'd do em at the local mall or down a deserted side street in an industrial area
..ever been in the middle of a rearend swap and had the cops come by and give you 1/2 hr to pack up and move on?.....not fun. (thankfullly they didn't show up again cuz the job ended up taking about an hour longer than that..)

Yep, I'm in an apartment and I do all my work in my parking lot...sheesh! It makes it interesting having the next car 1 foot away from you!
I was trying to find a garage that someone was renting out on Craigslist, but no luck yet.

Re: Man I need a garage
I shouldn't complain, cause I have a semi-private driveway and backyard to work in, but I shure could use a garage to get out of the elements. It is not easy working under the truck on an old gravel driveway or in the grass when it starts raining, etc. I work on my bump year-round outside and the winter months are the worst cause my hands go numb quick.

Re: Man I need a garage
I had to sign a paper that said no junk vehicles in the parking lot and my bump has been bending pushrods and either going to repair the motor that's in it or get a motor for it either way I'll have to move it. I can see it now the neighbors telling on me " he's got that POS truck of his all torn apart in the lot"!

Re: Man I need a garage
Yep, I got a nastygram from the city about dissassembled and untagged vehicles. Someone stole my pumkins out int he alley where my '64 was so now I don't have to worry about crushing them when I move the car. My '70 F350 is going to get slapped back together (doors on cab, aluminum bed on frame etc. so it looks good and the old '70 cab is going to the farm. PITA but it is what it is...

Rent a mini storage unit. Around here a 10x20 goes for $70 a month. Kind of tight quarters for a truck but you could roll it out to work on it and keep spare or loose parts in the bed or hang them on the wall. Just an idea.

Its a though and i might just look into it, but I'd have to guess here in Los angeles county I unit will cost a little more then that. It seems like everything cost more here.

Re: Man I need a garage
Yeah, the storage unit isnt worth it here where we live. I pay $150 a month for my 10x10 indoor unit. The 10x20 units for a vehicle are about $250-300 a month out here. I looked into it already. Once I get the 72 out of here, you can bring your truck over here as often or for as long as you need. The old lady likes ya, so it wont be an issue... Lol

I know how you feel. I live in the country now so I can work on my stuff without having to worry about it but I'm also shopless.
I have to do all my work out under the trees on the gravel. I have some sheets of thick aluminum that I lay down for the jack and jack stands.

Re: Man I need a garage
i know how it feels not to have a garage.I have been doing the work on my bump out in the open since i have owned it(9 months) I rent but my place is in the country and my landlord dosen't care what i do around there as long as i pay rent on time.I do have a big enough outbuilding to store loose parts and i keep the rest under cover when i am not working on it.One of the negative parts of having no garage is having to get up all tools when done for the day.
