I'm in the same situation. Got a storage shed for big loose stuff, but everything else has to be picked up and hauled inside.

Just built mine about 4 years ago. What a blessing! Built a workshop in the crawlspace under my house too. Block foundation but it's 12' high on one end 'cause I live on a mountain. Disassembled my truck for a frame off rebuild and what a chore lugging stuff around the house to the "basement". I'm in a fancy schmancy subdivision but as long as I keep it in the garage nobody says anything. So I've got my frame and cab in the garage not too visible from the road. My bed's around behind my house, under my deck, and the rest of the parts are in the "basement". Man, I never knew how heavy doors were until I had to lug 'em about 100' around the house, down the hill, all the way to the other end and up inside the "basement". Now I'm sandblasting and painting parts in the back yard so I have to drag everything out, do the work, then drag everything back in. My wife only allows me to take up half of the garage with "my junk" so she can pull in if it's raining. Still nice to have a place to work on all the kid's cars when they tear up. I've been eyeing one of those 16' x 16' storage building's at the local HD for a workshop/paint booth set up. Still couldn't get all of my truck in there but I could get most of it.

For the guys in gravel, build a wooden platform to work on. I used a bunch of skid wood, then three layers of chipboard and I could pick motors and not worry about the jackstands falling over. It even lasted a couple years since I covered it with a tarp when not in use. Made life without a garage manageable.
