The old mini van is getting in real bad shape so my wife and I decided it was time to get something else. We decided to get a smaller car that the family could all still fit in, even it it is a little tight, and get better gas mileage. We decided to get a 2012 Ford Focus SE hatchback. I used to have a ZX3 Focus a few years ago and I loved it. My wife and I and all three kids took a vacation to Texas in that little car! Here are some photos.

Nice , I've always liked the Escort, now Focus lineup. Vicki used to have a 91 Escort GT. The only year with a real pocket rocket engine. When we bought the Escape we wanted a SUV, but not to big with decent MPG.

Good little cars IMO, I went by a dealership today and looked at some. Ive got a 01 ZX3 that i use as my run around car and have to say i love it, I had a mustang before it and the focus has a lot more room ( would never think that by looking at them ) and gets better mileage. Hows the interior legroom in it ? Can you streach out if you need to ?
I'm 6'2 and hefty but I have plenty of room. I even sat in the back seat while the salesman was showing my wife how the Sync system works and was very comfortable. It doesn't seem quite a roomy and the ZX3 I had but I think that is mostly because it is a four door car instead of a two door. When I was sitting in the front seat I had plenty of leg room and the seat wasn't all the way back. The driver's seat is adjustable for for height from the floor as well as front to back and tilt but the passenger seat only adjusts front to back and tilt. When I was in the passenger seat the head room was not as much as I would have liked but in the driver's seat it was better because I was able to lower the seat just a bit. I drove the car around for a while in town and also on the expressway and it drives real well. I think we will be real happy with it.

Well after about 1k miles on the car we are getting 34.3 mpg in normal driving. We haven't taken any long trips in it so it might get even better. We usually take a 15 mile one way trip to take the kids to school over hilly roads.

Very nice. I really like the new body style. The front view looks really cool in your rear view.

Now that you have lived with the Focus for a while I would like to hear your impressions of the powertrain and particularly if it has the powershift transmisson how that performs.
I have a '08 Focus 2 door with a manual trans and PZEV motor. I average 34 mpg's overall but I get 40-43 mpg's when I go to Vegas every year. I hope you got yours with the Microsoft Sync option.

Yes we got the Sync option. It is really cool but we need to upgrade our cell phones to get the full use of it.

It has the powershift six speed trans and I like it for the most part. I have noticed that it does not like going up our driveway at slow speeds. Our driveway is a fair grade and it is gravel. If I take it too slow going up the hill the car seems to have a hard time deciding which gear to stay in. Other than that one issue and the occasional clunky downshift it seems to do real well.

We helped my son buy a 2002 4 door hatch back with around 30k on it. I tried my best to keep the oil changed on it but would of had to sprout wings to keep it changed on time. It has probably had the oil changed 10 times in the 130k miles he's had it so it now has about 160k on it. It has the double over head cam engine in it and still runs like sewing machine. I did do a timing belt change on it and engine mounts plus a few minor cooling related problems but it has been a great car.
If yours has that engine one thing to watch out for is the thermometer housing leaks and the PCV hose goes underneath the Thermo. housing and causes trouble.
Great car otherwise
