Nice Surprise!

Post by 19agin »

Before I bought my truck, I used the VIN decoder to see what components it had. The VIN told me it had a 3.50 gear ratio. When putting in a pinion seal yesterday, I got a good look at the tag. Apparently, someone has replaced the 3.50 with a 3.25 limited slip! I don't hot rod my truck, but it's nice to know the pieces are in place! :D

With trucks our age you cannot depend on a VIN tag anymore. You really cannot depend on anything until you check it yourself. No telling what people have done to it over the years. I know what has been done to mine since I have owned it the last 30 some years and my dad bought her new but unless you have owned it most of it's life or have gone through it you have to find out for yourself. A previous owner might have found the 3L25 tag in a junk yard and put in on the axle 25 years ago when he was trying to sell the truck. lol I hope for your sake it is a 3L25 though. That is the nice kind of surprises.
