Too much

I have been chosen to sell the automotive estate of a local man here in Maryland. I've bought 2 spots at fall Carlisle. My problem is there is enough parts, cars to fill 20 spots, I've just gotten into the buildings and it's amazing.



Most items are 48-53 Ford Merc. then Olds, Buick, Caddy. 20 or so flathead complete engines and lots of parts, 20-30 overhead valve engines including nailheads, FE's etc. NOS sheetmetal back to the 50's

My question is this: Out of all these items, what do you guys think would be the best choice to take to Carlisle?

About half the stuff is in closed buildings, then there is a 15 bay pole barn with more.



Unfortunatly I wasn't able to get into the property until a few days ago, so any help is appreciated.

Carlisle... Anything exotic or unsual. Complete flatheads that turn over should be sellable. Old '50's carbs that aren't junk, some distributors too. The bad thing is from your pics is it looks like a horders dissaster and about 90% of it would end up on the scrap pile before it would sell.

The glass, sheet metal and rears you could craigslist if you can figure out what it is. I don't envy you at all but if you need some help and I'm close enough it looks like an interesting time helping to sort through it.

Do you have any pictures of the other stuff?

Man! If you have the time to sort through all of that you might be sitting on a gold mine. It will take a lot of work though that is for sure. You will not sell it all or even a large portion at one autofair though. It will take several years to sort it and sell it all. You might look online and see what kind of cars have the most interest and try and gather some of the parts for them for Carlisle. Then sort it out and craigslist them and Ebay them. Depends on how much work you are willing to put into it and how much you can make from it. 1st thing I would look for would be any kind of early fuel injected Corvette parts and then any 6 Pack Mopar intakes, the wedge intakes where the carbs sit way out. Can't remember the name of it right now but somebody will and carbs. Then any Ford 3 Deuces stuff and 2x4 intakes. Any king of 4 speed car trannies and any kind of GTO parts. Any kind of positive traction diffs would be a sure hit also. Sure Grips, Positive tractions, Limited slips, all sorts of names.
Oh Equa_Locks.
I am sure you will get a lot of answers on this. NOS sheet metal depending on the cars whould be a great hit and you could haul a good amount with little weight also. Man oh man I bet you will get covered up with requests.
I also think any Flat head that is free to turn over would be a great seller plus any kind of hot rod parts for them. There is a great following of them with people really hot rodding them these days.
Might want to get onto a couple of hot rids sites and feel them out also

Thanks guys, I'm going to take the odd stuff I see so far, A new 390 FE crank, some flatheads and the aftermarket parts for them. The nailheads, NOS sheetmetal and mechanical parts. There are 5 buildings and the pole barn. The items in buildings are organized and labeled, there are 14 cars in another building, 60/61 ranchero w/ toneu cover, 57 ford, caddy's, etc. Another building houses a 56 Ford and wax cardboard chicken boxes full of NOS parts, house garage has 22 Studebacker hod rod, etc.. There is a full shop with welders, compressors, metal fabricating area, walls of shelves and drawers with parts, a 50 Ford and a tricked out T bird engine.


The mess in the one pic is the pole barn,what I can't sell in 6 months will go to scrap yard.

I've been a Chevy guy most of my life, I can spot GM parts most everytime, 60-70's I've restored for 20 years, 30 or more. 60's 70's Ford and Mopar I know a some, but the 40's 50's my knowlage is slight, tri 5 chevy's is about it.

So.. what is the HOLY GRAIL list for Fords and Mercs from 45 to 58?

a hugh auction is what needs to happen there. the buyer will have to determine if the part he wants is the part he is buying. to heck with hauling junk to a place and not being able to sell it.

I agree with whats already been said.

What I would take to Carlisle may be different than most.
I would not take anything large or cumbersome or fragile.
I would take 1 of everything I could, (1set of wheels,heads etc.)
Take as many different items as you can , hoping to make contact with a broad group of car collectors as possible,
asking them to spread the news to all their buddies.
Take all the flyers, bussiness cards, post large pictures of items with contact information at your Carlisle site.

The curse of fall Carlisle is it's just so flipping huge you need to have easy to see people grabbing items. Most spots get the 5-10 second look over unless it's either something I need that I see or a bunch of decent looking stuff yardsale fashion where the prices should be decent. What I did for the Ford show I set up at a couple years ago was load the parts in the truck and the car on the trailer and even trying to unload the truck on Thursday I was selling stuff and answering questions about my fairlane.

What I would do with that pile is load a bunch of good looking engines on a landscape trailer and just park it in one of the bays and have the second bay with at least one pop up canopy with some other stuff. Selling up there isn't hard but it does get boring and tiring. Expect rain and mud, take cardboard and bright colored posterboard to make signs of what you have. Don't be afraid to call out.

I'll be up Saturday and maybe Friday. Smithburg's steam and tractor show is today.

i wonder if a few of the ford parts especialy if they'll work on a 67-72 might even be sellable here? Only limitation i foresee is larger stuff will be hard/expensive to ship. and if you hasve to sell or scrap by a certain date.

It looks to me like you are sitting on a rat rod gold mine there. Make that diamond mine. Try maybe getting on some rat rod sites and if there is time for it.......maybe offer to open the collection to buyers. Another alternative might be to offer the entire collection to another collector.

Hi, boy what a load ! !...I would take any flathead speed stuff, NOS sheetmetal in good cond.
Things that you can identify, like someone said, if the weather is nice it will be crowded & people will walk by and ask "Hey you got any 57 Chevy stuff?"..& keep walking as you try to answer.. The Fall event is large & there is just not enough time to stop & look at every stand.. ALSO I would netwerk the auctioneers & find out who is the best to handle an on site auction...This is the only way to really unload this stuff.. There are some pretty sharp auctioneers out there that advertise well & have a great following....BTW, what is your site #'s....we may come down if the weather is nice...........GOOD LUCK.............Donnie
