U-Pull-It finds

Post by flyboy2610 »

Last Saturday was a beautiful day here, and since the wife and kids were off doing something else when I got off work, I decided to go up the U-Pull-It yard in Omaha.
I was hoping to find a nice bench seat (WITH cup holders!) for my '69 F250CS.
I didn't find a bench seat. But I pulled these from a '94 XLT extended cab truck:

The center console flips up to a jump seat, and fold down to reveal cup holders! It also has a nice latching compartment with coin holders!

I have heard all the negatives about high back bucket in our trucks, but I really like the look of them better than low backs. Plus, I'm not super tall, so I like having the seat a bit more forward than most people would. I plan to replace the sliding seat track that are on them with a set I have from a bench, plus get another set of tracks for the other seat, and see how they fit. The center console will have to be unbolted from the base it's on, as I really doubt the floor pan contour remained the same from '69 till '94! I will have to make a base for it, but no worry there.
I have a welder, and I'm not..... afraid.... to use it.
I also got the seat belts for the center console. Each side actually has two parts. One side has the buckle for the driver seat, plus the latch for the center console/jump seat. The other side has the buckle for the passenger seat, plus the buckle for the center console/jump seat.
The brown stuff is just dirt. I will probably have them reupholstered after I get them fitted to the truck.

I also spotted something else that I REALLY wanted, but didn't have the necessary tolls with me to remove. So Sunday after church I went back up and got this:

This grille is NICE! I have been able to find 3 VERY small dents in it. It does have some scratching up on top near the valance, but no pitting or flaking. I am going to polish it up, maybe buff it on low speed, and see what it'll bring. The headlight doors are not the greatest. They do have some denting on them, and the black paint is pretty faded. But the grille is very nice! I had three different people at the yard tell me "That's a nice grille!"
They charged me $30 for it, plus $8 each for the headlights.
I wonder how may hundreds of people walked past this and didn't know what it was or what it was worth?
I also found this on the ground next to a '68:
Image
It's a three-on-the-tree column. The lower bushings look to be in good shape. I haven't checked it over real close yet, though. It feels solid when I move the shift lever. It'll go up for sale after I check it over.
I also got a power steering fluid cooler off the '67 I got the grille from.
I found all this at the south yard. I never even made it to the north yard. (Omaha has two U-Pull-It's, I actually like the north yard better.)
It's always fun going up there!

Those are awesome finds! Congrats. On a side note, Omaha and that area are beautiful this time of year. I spent a couple years in Sioux Falls, would make trips to the Omaha Zoo around this time. Would take that weather over the AZ heat any day, still in the 100's here.

Very nice finds! That grill is amazing and nice steering column. I am very familiar with the tall bucket seat set-up you pulled out of the 94, because I have those same type of seats in my 96 F-150. I like them, they're comfortable. The center console that flips up and down is the best part. I use mine all the time, mostly for an armrest and cup-holder. I keep cds and loose stuff under it unless someone needs to sit there.

I am going have the same seats for my 67. I am using power seat bases from a 96 ford explorer and made a new bracket to bolt to the floor. The explorer seat base is aluminum with a steel part riveted to mount to the floor, the steel part is what I built. I am going to recover mine with black leather from a company in Vancover B.C. you have to remove the cloth and then recover with leather. Now if work would leave me alone I would get them installed it the truck.

Yes, it is. The truck was equipped with a Saginaw box.

I may have spoke too soon. It may be a manual steering column. The shaft from the end to end measures right at 37 inches. I can't really recall if the steering box had hoses or not, and the front of the engine was pretty well disassembled. So if anyone knows how long a manual column shaft is, and a PS shaft, I would appreciate knowing. I don't feel like driving back up to Omaha to look at the truck.

Thanks, 70_F100!
It appears to be a manual steering column.
Oh, Pooh.

It will be for sale, I just want to clean it up first. I plan to make a crate out of 1x?'s and 3/8 plywood to protect it during shipping. I'll post it up when I'm ready.
