Appreciate the pictures and the update on it's NOT being for sale...sad, but maybe someday.

Seeing a Merc bump alive and well is like spotting a a supposedly extinct species that are rumored to be seen occasionally but only in myth, legend and tall tales. Hmmm...Big Foot with a Merc tailgate perhaps?

I am not sure but I was under the impression that merc only made trucks until 1967. Making only one "bump" model. Hopefully some one else knows more, but I think this is very rare. Don't forget up here in Canada there aren't many bump survivers whether they are Merc or Ford and how many Mercs made it to a safe warm climate in the States? I think you better try real hard to get this one!

I should have done my research before I opened my mouth! It turns out they made two bump models 1967 and 1968. Still a rare truck!

Possibly three years if you read what Mike posted in his link about possible "rebadging" going into 69'?
I tend to believe this might have came from one of those dealers who were shipped tailgates, (Ford hood lettering-no fender reflectors or even holes where they might have been)? :hmm:

I realize anything's possible after 40-plus years but it doesn't sound like a real one to me. Too many unanswered questions. If we had the vin it would help but the owner says 1969 and describes the tailgate as cobbled together from both Ford and Merc gates so its provenance is anyone's guess.
Lots of you guys own trucks made at Oakville so the term coming from Canada in this instance is as meaningless as the rebadging comment originating on the mercpickup site. Rebadging is still going on today so who's to say an older rebadged truck is worth more than a recently rebadged truck? Worth only what some sucker's willing to pay if he's led to believe it's an original. That's why I posted the thread detailing these mercs- so hopefully you guys won't get stiffed.

I had a pen and pad in my front shirt pocket. Just not comfortable asking for the VIN number as he was so reluctant to even show me the truck. If I ever get a call they want to sell it, I'll try to find this thread again. I kinda' think it might be a clone from the hood and front fenders I saw and have described here?

Don't blame you being shy about pushing your luck on that one, Jeff. In a case like that I just scan the number and try to remember the letter and first couple numbers to get a time frame of production. Sounds like he lucked onto a merc gate and threw it on.
