OK Gentlemen,

I have a problem with my starter clutch and think I got it pinpointed. But does anyone know how to pull that thing out?

Start them young ha ha!

The Starter Turns The big Gear, which is hooked to the shaft, that I believe is hooked to the starter clutch. Anyone know the correct way to pull all of this out without tearing anything up?

You posted some good detail pics, but the only thing I am good at when it comes to bikes is falling off them :lol:

In the following picture I need to replace the clutch that is in between the big gear and the chain.

I got this bolt removed, do I need a puller to get the bearings out. On the other side it has a retaining pin holding a gear on. I am afraid to tear into it to hard and break something.

What year is the motor? It looks as if it is a 81 - 83 model, KZ1000? or 750? GPZ? Let me know and I will see if I can figure it out.

It is an 82 KZ750! I would appreciate it, I am at a stopping point till I know more!

From what I see and what I remember, it should be done with the cases split but you might/should be able to walk it out from the LH side towards the clutch. Fuzz!

I was able to walk it out that way! The secondary shaft came out real easy. No big problems. The rollers and push rods look good on the clutch but the springs are for sure the problem they are not returning like they should be. I need to get an impact driver to remove the bolts but here are some photos of my progress thus far. I have the part on order hopefully they com in soon!

Somewhat complicated little machines aren't they? I'm glad for you that you didn't have to split the cases to do it. That would have been a nightmare.

Ford 4x4 fun, glad to hear you were able to get it out. Hope everything goes back together as easy.

Fomocoguy, Actually they are pretty simple. I once had a Kawasaki ZX-6 Ninja (600cc sportbike) with bad 2nd gear. Rebuilt the transmission, having to split the cases, but when I was going back together I didn't get the shift drum in quite right and wondered about it but put it all together. Got it started but it wouldn't shift gears correctly. I pulled the engine back out, split the cases, fixed the shift drum alignment (took maybe a minute or so to do that) and put the engine back together in the bike and running in right around 4.5 hours. Pretty easy, except for that damn shift drum. ;)

I suppose it's just a matter of opinion! I've had a number of them down with the cases split and it always makes me nervous. Mostly because I hate doing things twice and there are so many things you can easily get just a little off (like your shift drum) that will totally screw everything up. I learned real quick to be meticulous as all get out, laying everything out as I remove it on a clean table and taking pictures if it's going to be apart for awhile.

Not exactly rocket surgery, but still much more detailed than an FE! :lol:

This, hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be, but than it hasn't been easy either. I prepared myself for failure so the fact that I have a fighting chance makes it feel easier I guess. I was impressed with how easy it was (I had step by step instructions) to actually pull it out. Now the fun part getting it all back together! :thup:

Don't know much about repairing Japanese bikes, But I came in 2nd in the Honda toss at Laconia over 40 years ago, about 21 feet as I recall.. I used the "hammer throw"=====The guy that beat me was smaller, but he threw a 24 footer, using the javelin toss..Goes to show, size doesn't always matter.........couldn't resist.....Donnie :P
