OT My 1997 F250

Post by OldRedFord »

On the alternator the three prong connector that hooks to the voltage regulator has a wire that comes out and plugs into another terminal on the alternator. What is the terminal for? The piece of wire between the two has been spliced and I believe that it wasn't a good one and is causing the warning light to come on.

If I jiggle that wire it will go out.

Its the wire with the blue goop.

What does the wire do? 3G alternator

Typically that would be a voltage sense wire going to the internal regulator but I'm not 100% sure on the 3G's.

Now my license plate lamp is not working. As the friendly officer let me know the other night.

I bought a new lamp and swapped it out with the old one. Still no light.

Bulb assembly is like this. How does it come apart?

Whoever wired in the two six and seven way trailer plugs needs to drug by his man parts. The wires are spliced, spliced, and spliced again at the rear bumper. Temped to rip it all out and start over.

What would be my best option for joining multiple wires together neatly? I have a seven and five way plug in the bumper, and then a seven and five way in the bed.

Do they make the push in style connecters water resistant?

Should be able to find a plug in wiring kit for your truck. If not (like for old bumpsides) grab a pair of underbed plugs with some wire from a wrecking yard and solder up your own that plugs right in.

On your truck there should be a short harness next to the spare tire carrier where you can plug in a whole new trailer wiring set-up. The harness with trailer plugs can be bought from the parts counter at your Ford dealership, dont remember the price off hand though

Those two plugs are there. All the splices are when the second six and seven way trailer hookups were added.

And the yahoo previous owner welded the brush guard and rear bumper on to the frame.
