Uses for Duct Tape

Post by Mancar1 »

What do you use Duct Tape 4?
Just sitting here with my morning coffee and thinking of some of the things my late father used Duct Tape 4. Hole in his hat, or shoes Duct Tape. Seats in his 64 El Camino, work vehicle, covered in Duct Tape. Pole security light loose, Duct Tape. If it moved he Duct Taped it. He loved his Duct Tape. He always made do with what he had.
I carry it, but I don't use it as much as he did. When he passed I expected the company that made the stuff to go under.

A roll of duct tape and a cattle prod can get your point across to someone much better than a strongly worded letter.

Duct tape has sure been used to get people out of a lot of bad situations. WD-40 is another product that people have a lot of uses for. I actually don't care much for it anymore since PB-Blaster came out but it still has it's uses. I have used WD-4- on my knees when they were swollen and hurting and it actually helped.
I can't say I have ever used Duct tape to get me out of a scrape though. I have used a potato in a hole in a radiator to get me and my daughter home from about 85 miles away. 4 wheeling with friends in a 76 F150 4x4 used to have and a friend in front showered me with rocks and punched a pretty good size hole in the radiator. Another friend went to the trading post, got a big baking potato, cut off part and shoved it into the hole. That radiator didn't leak a drop all the way home. lol The 1st two rows of the radiator were busted big time too. lol

I've seen books for sale on both, (duct tape & WD-40). But to me if you need a book for either-you shouldn't be in possession of either LOL!
Thanks Florian, I needed that!

As an HVAC guy the only thing I use duct tape for anymore is an improvised band aid. Get it real tight and the blood won't leak out.

i have found that loose windows that roll down on their own or just won't roll all the way up becuase of the motor or trck get the last gap taped shut with it on both sides. and it's good for leaky sun/moon windows.

One of my earliest memories of duct tape was an old pair of binoculars my neighbor gave me from his garage sale. one of the eyepieces had remnants of some old dried up duct tape on it. This must have been back around 1980 when I was around seven years old.

Recently we have been using duct tape to put signs on the Schlumberger Peterbilt truck's doors but then found blue painters (masking) tape worked better because it left no residue. I did have one sign blow off on the highway so perhaps the duct tape was better after all. I had a pretty white roll of it that matched the trucks.

The mythbusters had a whole show about the stuff I believe and even made a boat out of it. Well actually it was a steel wire boat but made to float by covering the entire thing with duct tape:

I keep a roll of duct tape and a couple of wire coat hangers in the toolbox of my truck for emergency road side repairs, and have used them several times.

I once looked at a baja bug for sale that had a tie rod that had come apart it was so worn out, so their fix was to wrap the whole joint in duct tape using about half a roll. Needless to say I did not go for a test drive...
