E85?

Post by hotrod ford »

I mistakenly filled my 2005 F150 with E85. Will this harm anything to burn through this tank? I have read that F150's did not use E85 until 2006.

I'd drive a lot and don't let it sit too long. As soon as your tank is down 1/4 add regular gas to top it off. E85 is tough on non E85 parts.

Yep, it's fine, just don't let it sit in there too long. It will burn fast, just keep adding the regular stuff when you can.

you will be running lean under load if your fuel injectors can't keep up with demand.

are you sure your engine is not flex fuel?

i've been putting it in my 94 F250. i run it out every day though. i do mix it with regular gas though so that thins it out. it is hard to start when i run only the E85.

You may want to inspect any soft parts in the fuel system after its flushed out. The alcohol can be a little harsh on them.

The alcohol can definitely be rough on the rubber parts. The fuel pump and lines are all different on the flex fuel vehicles. Also, the alcohol can attract moisture.

I looked into this a lot when we were gonna run alcohol in the race car and it was talking about having two tanks, one for alcohol and one for gas. So just before you park the car to put it up for the week, you're supposed to run a little gas through it, due to it attracting moisture and being hard on the rubber lines.

It does have ill effect on rubber parts, but one tank is not going to do damage if he does not let it sit and adds gas to it as it goes down. It's already 15% gas, the more he adds the less likely it is to do anything.
