Is a short box?

Post by Andrew »

Hi Guys,

It has been a long time since I was here due to our 2 year old daughters continuing health problems.

I am looking for your answers and I know this is where to come. I have found this 1971 truck on-line for an up coming auction in my area and I am interested in it. I would swear that is a short box and not a long one as promoted in its write-up. As for the photos it looks like it has a pre-1971 steering wheel as well. The seat actually looks cushy.

You can see the truck at http://www.ccpauctions.com/lot-details. ... EventID=83

So my question is is this a short box or my eyes fooling me?

Many thanks fort he help,
Andrew

He's calling that and automatic also.
That's a 4 speed on a short bed.

Looks short to me. The vin may be for a long bed because the truck may have been modified.

I was pretty sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me and that it was a short box.

I was thinking the transmission was just switched to a floor automatic shifter, as when you look at the petal shot (3rd from the bottom) the truck only has 2 not three. Any one else see it the same way?

It appears to me as a short bed and automatic, missing the clutch pedal unless the pics are misleading, very nice truck though.

The floor shifter is an aftermarket version for automatic transmissions, so YES, it's an automatic. Two stake pockets per bed side tells me a short bed. It looks to me to possibly be a 1970 with 1971 grill inserts, that would explain the three spoke steering wheel or the steering wheel was swapped in...either or.

Shortbed auto. Could be a Lokar shifter. Nice truck. Paint looks good and engine looks good and well maintained online at least.
Not sure what it will sell for but looks nice. A 40 year old truck will have a lot of stuff swapped around on it. To me the only thing that really matters is if it can be titled and is it the LOOK of the year truck you want. My be a 67 cab on a 71 bed but does it look like a 71 and do you want the grill and looks of a 71? If not change it. lol

A great source for answers. The truck will be registerable as it is done by the auction company. I do wonder if it is safetied? It is interesting enough that I might just go to the auction and check it out. I also bought my 1969 Mach 1 from them. The real question is the quality of the steel. My two trucks are long boxes so I wish this one had a long box too.

Thank-you all for your help.

I would have a look at it. I like it from what I saw in the pictures.
