Check these tires out
Took some pics of my 1969 F-250 Camper Special. This truck only has 67,324 miles on it. I wanted everyone to see the tires on this, the rear ones popped off the bead but the front ones are still holding air.

Re: Check these tires out
Does your truck have 16.5" wheels and tires? If so, that explains the tires not seating, difficult to seat or easily separated from the wheel. 16.5" wheels don't have a seating bead like 16" wheels do.
16.5" wheels have a ramp to aid in seating a typical stiff side wall truck tire, there is NO seating bead to keep the tire on the wheel. The tire is held against the wheels lip, under air pressure, instead.
It's NOT a good idea to lower air pressure on a 16.5" wheel/tire combination to drive in sand for example...it's too easy to unseat the tire from the wheel.

And 16.5's are becoming harder to find in my end of the world, if you do find them they are crazy priced

Re: Check these tires out
Last I looked the only non-offroad 16.5s I found were Cooper and Firestone. My truck is either getting 9.5 x 16.5s one last time or a set of 16" wheels, preferably steel takeoffs that will accept my old hubcaps.Swegner99 wrote:And 16.5's are becoming harder to find in my end of the world, if you do find them they are crazy priced
That is whenever I get around to doing it, right now I still run my who knows how old tires.

Re: Check these tires out
Thanks for the replies. These tires have been on this truck since 1972. All wheels and tires are 16.5. The front wheels are a split rim design, while the backs are solid one piece. The tires on the front are old Road Handlers and on the rear are specifically labeled "Camper Special". The rear tire size is 12.5x16.5. Just thought it was neat to see these old tires still around.
