I should certainly hope that the Govt folks have more important things on thier minds than gun control right now... Seems they only dwell on it when the economy is doing well...
I am a bit peeved that I can't own a AR in MD and will have grief buying guns from neighboring states because of my address.

Yes, like the all important war on weed that never stops anything (ever) it does an fine job of burning up my tax dollars though. They should be focusing on that. I keep hearing how we don't have any money. No kidding...because you're spending it on stupid crap that does nothing. It would be like if I had a huge coke problem and then complained to you guys that I don't have any money. Someone would sit me down and say, "listen, I think I found your money leak, last month you spent 10k on coke and close to the same amount on hookers, the rest of it you just wasted. I THINK I have an idea how we can save you a couple bucks." That would be rational, but we have no one rational, they all live in a fantasy land.Ranchero50 wrote:I should certainly hope that the Govt folks have more important things on thier minds than gun control right now... It kinda shows just how out of touch they are. An AR is a fine weapon for the most part, but realistically is it more of a threat at close range that an off the shelf Ithaca auto mag 10 ga. Or an off the shelf 300 mag at distance. No, not really. It looks mean, and I think that is one of their hang-ups.
Not to mention...the thought that a total nut job is suddenly going to abide by the law and not purchase an illegal weapon is kinda wishful thinking.

Re: Soros buying up American gun and ammo mfgrs ?
I'm not a big gun collector, holder or anything but I do own a handgun for household protection. I used to squirrel and duck hunt a lot in my youth but haven't even done that in many a year. However, I do firmly believe in an American's right to hold and bear arms. Now some people kinda go a little overboard, I have friends that have their own private arsenal including ordnance and thousands of rounds for each firearm. One of them, I know, has the proper federal permits for all his but a couple of the others ......... ? Regardless, they are all honest, hard working people who collect firearms and discharge them in safe, organized clubs and ranges, well, most of them. Be that as it may, one of the reasons this country has never been "invaded" or occupied by a foreign militia or military is that very reason, citizens are armed and capable of assisting, and will, in the defense of their homes and their countries. Take that away from them and we will be forced to rely on an already understaffed and downsized military presence. With the "deficit" as it is, they frequently look to the military for cost cutting measures which further weakens our defense. To exercise gun confiscation would be a tragedy and a foolish and futile endeavor at best. I much prefer a local town's policy that has resulted in a much lower crime rate, http://www.reuters.com/article/2007/04/ ... 7620070418

Re: Soros buying up American gun and ammo mfgrs ?
About the only good thing that comes from gun control and ammo control speculation is the sales in my Grandfather's gun shop go through the roof. You would be amazed how many guys come in there, based on speculation of a pending legislation, and plunk down a list of about a half dozen guns they want to order. I dont know where the money comes from but they write some big checks. As of late most of his sales have been primarily powder, primers and bullets. There seems to be a fear of not having enough ammo on hand.Ranchero50 wrote:I should certainly hope that the Govt folks have more important things on thier minds than gun control right now... I agree, speculation and paranoia is a big driving force in that sort of thing.
Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go and stockpile ammo like a deranged squirrel.

If you DON'T want a gun, DON'T buy a gun,
BUT don't tell me I can't buy a gun just because YOU don't
want a gun.
If you want a gun, buy a gun.
This sounds right to me.

A friend of mine and I were discussing retirement and investments. He said he was going to talk to his financial advisor and have him change everything and put it all in gold and lead. Gold for high returns and lead to protect it.

HAHAHA, I didn't want to bring that up, but I did get a huge laugh out of it. Very rich poor man. I think a lot of guys want to use those terms to make something sound much worse and get their point across, but, they should really learn what they mean if they are going to use them in every day conversation.

Re: Soros buying up American gun and ammo mfgrs ?
To me, it's irrelevant whether Soros is involved here (he isn't) or not, what could become a REAL ISSUE is the fact that one privately owned company (CERBERUS) DOES OWN NUMEROUS GUN MFG'S. It is scary to think what COULD HAPPEN as a result of this and with the anti-gun movement gaining momentum. If nothing else, the email that started all this conversation did open my eyes to a different possibility that I have never thought about.

Not much scarier than one or two companies controlling news, healthcare, telecom, or the manufacture of voting machines.

Daimler had already run the company into the ground, and Cerberus just followed suit, resulting in the bankruptcy filing.

They are probably buying up all the arms companies to cash in on all the hysteria over gun control. Stories like this only help their bottom line, and that's all they care about.
