Quiet Compressor

Post by Mancar1 »

After having a oil less compressor in my shop for 15 years I thought the oiled Husky upright I replaced it with in 05 was quiet. I fired up my new 80 gal, 2 stage Engersoll Rand the other day and man it is quiet. Way less sound than the Husky. :D Now I can take the Husky to my cemetery maintenance shop and kick the old oil less off the proverbial cliff.

John, IR is really good stuff! For the record that's what we had in the USN.
I need to upgrade from my tiny thing soon too, (motor is almost drawing LRA when it has to restart). :hw:

Good morning John,

I'm glad to hear it! That's a beautiful machine you have, and seems like a wise investment.

I bought this USA-made portable compressor two years ago and love it, but I'm sure yours is quieter, and obviously yours is a large capacity machine!

Here's my little USA-made machine:

Jeff that is right, USN, I.R. Thanks for bringing back a USN memory
Robroy, that is a great looking machine you have there. I love the USA made stuff. I thought I.R. was USA made, Tank maybe. The motor says Mexico, and the comp. says India. At least it is not from China

IR makes great stuff. A few months ago I bought a new IR 1/2 drive impact. The thing is super quiet and very strong. My 'new' compressor at my house is already on it's last legs I think. Guess I will have to step up and get a good pump once and for all, one that does not smoke I hope.

Congrats on the new IR compressor. I had my eye on a two stage one, until Management (the wife) saw the price tag. I wound up with a Craftsman single stage 60 gal upright. It is soooo much faster and quieter than my old Campbell Hausfield oilless there is no comparison. I may not have gotten the "Lincoln" I wanted, but the "Ford" is still a wonderful upgrade from before.

Robroy, those Thomas compressors are pretty nice little guys.

Ingersol-Rand is a European based company. Today IR pnuematic stuff is profit driven to sell to the masses. The HPACS and LPACS on my ship were IR. IR was a US company back then to get contracts like that.
Curtis, Gardner-Denver, Quincy, Worthington are names to keep an eye out for.

I have found that, "proudly built in the USA", doesn't mean all the compomants it is built with are made in the USA. Bottom line is, it is a great compressor, and I have always wanted one. Now I have one. I am :D with the Big 1. As I have named it.
It doesn't have to be USA made to be good. I just like to buy USA. Like a lot of other people from around the world. A person such as me, likes to support their own country. Proudly served, and I love the USA.
Off my soap box
