Crew Cab bump in Diesel Power Magazine!
I was flipping through my latest issue of diesel power and found an article of a 70 crew that was restored with a 4BT Cummins. The crew was nice looking on the outside, but it had some other pics and certain parts of the build looked a little shoddy for me. It was nice to see it in there though. I looked on their site and couldn't find a posting of it yet. Perhaps later.

I haven't seen the magazine, but that's probably the truck.
Not really sure what I think of it. The professional install lacks a bit. The welds are nice, but engine mounts like that will shake that truck apart in time. Hope it works well for the owner and there's always room for improvement down the road.
Cool to see some fullsize truck/4BT coverage though. Someone needs to get some >200HP happy 4BT fullsize truck/SUV videos out there? Hmmm....

That is it! Good find. I see he took a pictuer of the magazine article in his thread. I noticed some of the pictures and the work looks fine. It all seems functional but lacks the fit and finish. Quality is difficult to judge in picures alone. I did like the 4BT coverage, Diesel Power seems to be pretty good about having articles that have unique drive trains instead of just the typical factory build ups. I think you are the man to get the higher HP 4BT!

Those motor mounts are horrible, I can see why it shakes so bad...

Nice crewcab but that guy's got more time and money on his hands than is healthy...and notice the magazine article bills it as a "budget" build...I bet he's got close to $20K in that old truck.

- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood,some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox,behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame,rear end,rear springs,and rear bumper...

Nice build but as it's already been said the swap lacks a bit. I don't care for the mounts or the lack of a fan shroud. The Big Bear, I understand your feelings. Many times I've posted something I thought was gospel only to find I was dead wrong. Somebody would post a counter point of view to mine and I would think "Jerk ...go pi$$ off, you're DEAD wrong." I'd be PO'd and think "I'm never going back to that stupid site again." Time would pass, I'd calm down, I'd do some research (ain't the internet GREAT!) and come to find out that the "Jerk" was CORRECT!?! WTH, I was Wrong!?! ...me? ...YEAH, Afraid So Larry...
My point is unless you "put yourself out there" expose your thoughts and express them at sites like this and wait for the responses, you'll always be stuck in the "I'm ALWAYS right world" which just doesn't exist. So PLEASE continue to post here. Plan on there being counter points of view to yours and yeah, you may get PO'd at some folks but that's the way the world works...we've all got opinions and they're seldom all the same.
I'm an old guy and have had to thicken my skin up a whole bunch, but in that process I've also learned an immense amount of knowledge by just keeping my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open. Yup, even younger members have taught me a thing or two and I greatly appreciate them for it. It proves you can teach an old dog new tricks.

The Big Bear, I was serious about the shroud not sarcastic. As Forrestbump said we have lots of younger members here that can learn from others experiences. I wrench for a living and have been doing so for 30 odd years. I still have all my digits but I've come close to losing them more than once. I've also done builds like that. Lots and lots of work. My hat is off to anyone who tackles any build no matter what it is.

Forums allow us peeps to share/compare experience and opinions across great distances, and sometimes across vast differences. After working on my truck today when I got off the forum I realized I had changed my mind on three different things already!Thanks Guys, your points are valid and I get "All" of the points. Your replies are legit and everything teaches us something so it is a good thing to keep learning. Now I realize maybe I was just nervous about maybe posting my own build and the flack I might get. Just my own inner thoughts and insecurities coming up. Hell, I was thinking of even tackling the Paint and the Upohlstery this time to save money and gain experience--now I am not so sure. Perhaps I will keep posting and even might take the chance to check out the differences in my build expressed by the other members, then again I am not sure if I would survive the free advice I might get since someone else noticed that I am "always right". I am still looking how to do a better shroud with some postings of the photos on how to do it. I would like to have one for my truck when I build gets to that point and since the points are valid about fingers what would be best?. Maybe fabbed aluminum or modified Plastic one that meets the dimensions the best?

I've never tried modifying a plastic one but I know there are some commercial adhesives out there that would likely be a big help. I have seen some really nice fabbed aluminum units though. Okay thanks Guys, First question for those reading. I am looking at a 1972 F250 High Boy 4X4 as a donor truck for it's parts. Will the majority of the Drivetrain parts bolt up to my 67 frame or are the frames different?

Completely different. Your best bet is to find a 4WD frame. Don't overlook roll over's as the sheet metal is usually all that's damaged. Look for 1965 through 1977-1/2 F250 4WD Frames.

So my F250 67 Ford Crew Cab 2 wheel drive frame is different than the 1972 4X4 frame? The vehicles just share the same sheetmetal they changed the chassis?
