Re: need help finding my dads 1972 F-250
hey guys, P.I. I hired to find pop's truck is having problems with the VIN. I have the tin dealer service plate, the last insurance card and the original owners manual. they are all the same. the last numbers or sequence number may be the cause. the letter P before the number 82015 does this sound correct?? production numbers say 151,790 built. is this nationwide? total production 1972 styleside 4x2 250's camper special's or just the Mahwah NJ plant? looking for other ways confirm VIN. thanks

The letter 'P' indicates Twin Cities, MN whereas the letter 'E' indicates Mawah, NJ. But I don't think that would give a roadblock to your P.I.
The sequential numbers following could just be from the production plant, not sure myself if Ford assigned numbers that plants had to use or if the plants just numbered them on their own. Seems to me it would have been Ford's call and the plants had to follow the rules so that there would not be any cases of duplicate V.I.N.'s...
As far as I know, V.I.N.'s cover all production in the US and Canada.

I stand corrected! Thanks for the clarification. What exactly is your P.I. running into that's blocking forward momentum?

bad news guys so far no luck. it seems the 250 is gone. I will never give up trying until I get proof it has been destroyed but so far nothing. Ford Co. actually responded to an email and called me personally to confirm that my VIN is correct. but by law they could not tell me the last registered owner. sure wish I could hack that puter. oh well I will keep ya posted. would have made an awsome christmas present.

That is pretty cool, ask them if they will send a letter with your contact information to the last known owner? Remind them about the new Chevy commercial that is out and see if they want to one up it...sportcustomman wrote:bad news guys so far no luck. it seems the 250 is gone. Re: need help finding my dads 1972 F-250
Very interesting deal you got going on here.
Me & dad tracked down his high school car when I first started getting interested in cars/trucks. 1994/95 or so.
It was a 1969 Plymouth Sport Fury. He tracked it down & come to find out it was about 40 miles away, a couple towns over. Unfortunately the car had caught on fire sometime in the 80's & had been sitting in the owners pasture ever since. Nothing was left but a burnd out hulk. What a shame. At least we found it tho.
Keep looking. You wouldn't believe how many of these trucks are sitting in pastures or barns waiting to get back on the road.
