Re: Tattoos?
Depending on your tattoo you will be judged like you are cussing in public, doesn't matter what you say, you're going to be prejudged as ignorant or just a plain low class person. Seems 50% of tats now are gang or attention getting fad failures for the Mtv generation. 40% are classy small one offs on decent folks and 10% are tat junkies who really enjoy the lifestyle.
We see the 50% all the time at work (factory production lines) jogging books and down piling for 12hr shifts (welcome to the bottom folks). Temps 18-22 with plugs in their ears, barbs in their eyebrows and some attention getting ink visible doing menial work because they are just too stupid to succeed in life. They last a couple weeks or days and move on to the next no paying mule job or end up in jail for again being stupid.
The 40% are normal folks working all over the place, the 10% are the same, usually decent folks with a couple nutjobs thrown in.

Re: Tattoos?
Tattoo artists that refuse to do certain tats due to customers making a poor choice are the differece between artists and scratchers.nadams wrote:I have several tattoos both arms from the elbow up a pretty much covered and large pieces on both calfs so I have no issue with tattoos. None f my tattoos are readily visable when I wear my work clothes (jeans and a short sleeve polo). I have several good friends in the industry and haved discussed neck, face, and hand tattoos extensively. One of my friends will not do them no matter how old the customer is and others will not do on anyone under 25. These type of tats are called career killers by tattoo artists, they realize that giving a giant tattoo on some 18 year olds neck will in most cases really limit heir future job choices. As a sales manager and outside sales person myself for the last 14 years for a heating company I could not imagine going into an elderly woman's house with a neck tattoo or love and hate across my nuckles and think she would trust me with her home much less give me $10,000 for a new heating system. It is not right but people are going to do what they think is right for themselves. Being a 6'6" 350lb guy with tattoos I get a lot of looks in he summer when I wear shorts and a t-shirt especially by kids who seem to be drawn to the bright colors. When I see some one staring at my tattoos I ask if they would like a better look, most people are happy that I am not upset by the staring and are quite pleasant, others not so much.

Re: Tattoos?
Tattoos are like guns in some aspect. This is where some plain old common sense should come into play. I would say that the greater percentage of people do not mind if you have tattoos and that same greater percentage don't mind if you own firearms. But, if you show up to an interview packing an HK91, it does not really say that you are all that together mentally. Showing up with a tattoo across your face will have the same effect. It's not really the tasteful nature of the tattoo, but rather that fact that you are goofy enough to put it on your face. It does not scream good decision making skills.

Re: Tattoos?
Tattoos on the face and neck is a whole other thing, I dont think that would be appropriate for anyone that interacts with customers on a daily basis, but if its a tech I would still consider it.

Yeah, it would not be something I would even take into account if he was a qualified tech guy.
In example...this guy. He was a fantastic craftsman. To turn him away for the way he looks would be a huge loss if you needed his type of skill.

Re: Tattoos?
That looks cool but it is out of my comfort zone. I have three tats and only one is visible all the time. I have one on my left ring finger that my wife and I got on our 11th wedding anniversary. I also have a wolf on my upper left arm and a couple of lizards that form the number 13 on the inside of my right bicep. I pretty much agree with y'all about face and neck tats.

Re: Tattoos?
Tattoos and piercings are a lifestyle choice; just like owning guns, and driving old trucks.
Call it ignorance if you want to, but the decisions that you make have a profound effect on how others perceive you. If you tat your face up, or get those huge plugs in your ears or nose, then you had better be hellaciously good at whatever you do, and have a list of references to vouch for you, or else you've just consigned yourself to a career as a barista or bookstore clerk.
I have no tattoos. Mostly because I am a fat, middle-aged guy, and if I had tattoos I would be a fat, middle-aged guy with tattoos... not much of an improvement. But if I did get one it'd be a big, glorious, multi-colored picture emblazoned across my body, because if you're gonna do it, do it right. But you can be sure that it won't be visible when I put on a shirt and tie for work on Monday. And you can be damn sure that it won't be on my face.

This is awesome, I'm glad so many of you chimed in. There are differing opinions on it for sure, but everyone seems to have the same core ideas. So CrypticRacer13 started it..... anyone else have pictures of their tats? I have some on my home comp that I will upload tonight.
