Happy Birthday....U.S.M.C.

Post by two-bit »

November 10 1775, the Continental Marines were formed.

"We took the rope from the Army,
To steal the anchor from the Navy.
and late on a Saturday night,
we swiped the eagle from the Air Force,
while on our way to guard the world,
while God rested on the seventh day."

Devil dogs, jar heads, blood stripes, leathernecks, call us what you will. Whatever you please. Just remember...once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine.
My son (USAF) calls it a glowering arrogance. He also says, with the hell they walk, they can have it.

Ooo Rah Marine Corp. My brother said it was the best and worst 7 years of his life, must have been more good than bad since his son signed on this year.

I'll tell you what I miss the most. There is a bond and trust formed that I have yet to experience in civilian life.
When I first got out, I was way too trusting of others. So, I was taken for a ride a few times.
Then I got paranoid that everyone was trying screw me over.
Now I suppose I have fallen somewhere in between the two and it seems to work alright.
To be perfectly honest, I had a heck of a time adjusting, and to be even more honest, I'm not sure I have 100%. I often thought about going back. Seems funny that my comfort zone involves me being shot at. At this point, I'm too old. An outfit like blackwater would take me, but dressing up like an action hero sorta rubs me the wrong way.

That's funny, we we had the same motto in only in Latin. Nulli Secundus = Second to None
