Authentic Mercury or Re-badged Ford?

Post by SomersMerc »

Hi. Long story made short: Brothers friend passed away and his widow asked for help selling his 1967 Mercury M100 Ranger. I am interested in purchasing it, HOWEVER, I think it is a rebadged F100. Door tag states it is a F100, as well as the VIN F10YCA89355. Hood, Tailgate and side markers all show Mercury. Last registered and insured as a Mercury in 2005. Another number on the door tag under RPM is A66782 that I can not figure out. From decoding the vin I can tell that the truck was manufactered in Feb 1967 in Ontario, Canada. 352 8cyl etc. I want to know before I possibly buy this truck if it is a Ford or a Mercury? I am 99% sure it is a Ford but since I am new at this any input would be appreciated.

Thx

The A6 DSO indicates an Alberta Lincoln/Merc dealer was it's original destination and the 6782 is the order number. To answer your question about the data plate: after 1965, the Ford and Merc data plates were the same exact format with no indications or special codes to ID either Ford or Merc aside from the DSO number. The serial numbers all start with 'F'. It's about time I added pics of these to the Merc truck thread...

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Glad I found out it is a Mercury. Not all stock but still looks pretty neat. There is added rear reflectors not found on the 67...

Does it still have the body tag stapled on the firewall above the master cylinder? Below the serial number stamping on the tag there's usually a big 'A' stamped if it's a L/M dealer ordered truck before late spring '68 (Merc); Fords usually had a 'B' on the tag. This applies to Canadian dso trucks only...

Easiest way to post pictures is to upload them to a free Photobucket account, and then post the link to the picture from there. It will show the pictures in your posts here while they are hosted on Photobucket.

Can someone tell me if they are able to view/open the links to view the posted photos? Also how would I just add the photo's to my posts instead of the links?

Yes can see them no problem. Very cool truck. Don't know anything about the Ford/Merc issue though.

These are all viewable, but the best way is when on photobucket and you put your cursor over the photo you want to link, copy the last (bottom) link in the list that appears. Using the last link will actually display the pictures in your post.
