Re: Tires
No you are not imagining. Tire prices are through the roof. What I have noticed the off brands have caught up with the big names. I buy my tires wholesale and I am seeing the pickup tires are up forty to fifty dollars. I bought a set of middle of the road tires for ny 07 ford f350 and the were 166 a piece. For my big dump trucks they are 350 a tire. Even recaps are now running 150 plus. These are just the tires since we mount them urselves

Yeah, I was hoping to find some that someone with more money than me peeled off to replace with something fancy. But you're right, they are not around much.averagef250 wrote:They're stupid expensive.

Re: Tires
Folks the tire market is flippin nuts. I handle truck tire purchasing for the scrap yard that is my 2nd job. I noticed problems starting late last summer. I deal with multiple vendors and they go thru this stuff every day. The most popular story is the rubber trees are dying off due to some of the extreme weather in recent years. Whatever the cause the result is a shortage. The only truck tires I can readily get are those made in China. Boss says don't buy them because we can't get any life out of them. The trailers hauling crushed cars literally shred them. Of all the manufacturers Brigstone-Firestone is doing the best at keeping up with orders. Used tires from the dealers are nearly extinct. Even good casings for retreads are getting harder to find because people are running them to the point of scrap before buying new ones. Last fall we were paying $114.50 for a lugger retread. Batch that I got last week cost $147.90 and that's on casings I sent out.

Re: Tires
When I bought a set of BF Goodrich for the 68 1st price I got was over $1,000.00
I played the we will beat their price game with all the dealers in the area and paid a little over $700.00 for the set. That was several months back. They have went up.

Re: Tires
Not that it helps any if you have a connection with a distrubutor or a manufacturer, but people paying retail can shop prices, then take it to your local Ford Quick Lane. Quick Lane will meet or beat any advertised pricing you bring in. Also a $100 rebate on a bunch of different tire brands, just another avenue to try.

Re: Tires
in b.c. we get slammed with "enviromental levies" (and a few other taxes as well) on top of paying thru the nose.
the tire companys are claiming that the higher price of oil is causing the price of rubber to go thru the roof
i nearly pooped myself when i went looking for some new tires for my ol 'pig and found out what they wanted for em - and almost nearly died when i enquired about tires for my f250
i'm just gonna live with the crusty old half bald ones i've got till they pop and then go scrounging for some half decent used ones

Re: Tires
I put tires on the girl friends Expedition last year for $1100 out the door and decided to get a matching spare last month for kicks. The same tire is now $400 for just the rubber! I decided against the matching spare idea.

Re: Tires
Dont get me wrong im not sticking up for anyone here. But I do know that gas is a commodity, its constantly being bought and sold on the open market. So you can place an order 20 minutes after the other guy and pay twice as much, in theory. Im not a proffesional on this subject, just repeating things the way they were explained to me
