Re: Tires
I just bought two Bridgestone tires from WM for my f150 and it was 450 for tires, mount, and balance. Not bad but sure not good. On the gas thing when it does go down it is only by a penny or two at a time but it can go up dime increments on consecutive days. Funny how that works.

Re: Tires
Just be careful what you buy. Tires have date codes stamped into the sidewall. I've seen lots of tires that were several years old and looked just fine until you inflate them. Then all the little dry rot cracks show up.Montana71-F100 wrote:Sometimes junk yards have good tires from wrecked vehicles.

Re: Tires
I have some experience with that whole date code thing. I had this brand new rear tire for my motorcycle. I had it stashed in my shop for years. Never mounted. Well, I forgot about it. Just recently I found it, mounted it up, looked fine.AlleyCat wrote:Just be careful what you buy. Tires have date codes stamped into the sidewall. Tell you what, it may as well been made out of plastic. I rolled on the throttle hard and it would spin like it was on ice. I finally got that hard coating worn off and it works good. But wow.

Re: Tires
https://www.treadwright.com/default.aspx I have yet to try them myself, but I have read good things and if they have your size it could save you a bunch. I plan on trying them out when I put a little more lift on my Cherokee. They come with a 2 year 24k mile warranty but are made with a 40-50k mile tread compound.

Re: Tires
If you are looking at buying used tires, check out the DOT code on the side for a idea how old they are. Usually on only one side of the tire it will have the complete DOT code. The last 4 digits tell you the week of what year it was manufactured. For instance, 3211 would be the 32nd week of 2011. Anything over 5 years old could be a gamble.

Re: Tires
I just today mounted a new set for my friend's Wife's Honda (yes, buying the tire machine was a double edged sword). 51 bucks a tire. Just flat out kooky that mine are so much more from the same outfit.

Re: Tires
It's not checked very often, and in BC we dont need anual inspections either
BUT if you have a crash in the snow without snowflake tires your insurance is void, even if it's not your fault you will not be paid anything!
The police can also have you towed or turn you back on high passes if they check

Re: Tires
Well, I must be livin right or something (dumb luck perhaps).
So get this...A friend of mine has pretty much the same pickup as me that he needed tire for (same size). He goes to the warehouse, picks up 6 new ones, put them in the bed of his truck and drives to work. He parks his truck by the front of the shop door, he works at a excavation company. Some clown backs out the door in a front end loader and backs it right up onto his hood. Smashed it flat. Insurance is calling it totaled.
He tells me I can have the new tires, just get his drag boat running. So I go by his place to see if I can figure out what the deal is with the boat. I flick the switch, silence, as in no fuel pump running.
I look at the fuel pump and negative wire pulled from the loop connector. I soldered on a new loop, hooked it back up and it fired right up.
New tires for me. I'm happy he's happy. Just fantastic. They are a little more aggressive of a tread than I would have wanted for a 2wd, but I most certainly am not going to complain.

Re: Tires
Well, it was a roll of the dice for him and me. It could have been something huge wrong with the engine that would have cost me a load to fix. In which case he would have gotten the better deal. Just the way it worked out was good for me. I mean...if it would have been bad, I would not have handed him a big bill after I told him I would fix it for the tires, so the same went for him.
Funny, I normally get the shaft on deals like that. It's about time a good one came around

Re: Tires
I didn't want to start a new thread about this, so I thought I would just throw it in here.
Many years ago, I had a 78 2wd F350, camper special. It still had the factory steel wheels on it (nice truck really) and I remember the back wheels being pretty darn wide. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I have been looking around for a set, did they have a special name for them or anything?
