1967 with push ignition?

Post by socalcraigster »

I saw a 1967 truck (don't remember where now) with the key on the left of the steering column but with a push button on the right of the steering column. But I have seen other 67's without such a setup.

So my question is - is the push button stock or is it something a PO did?

Dying to know

Thx

Thats interesting, I have a 72 that is setup the same way. I just assumed it was a PO that had installed it. Its a rather nice push button if I might say so.

I'm thinking after market. Not sure ,but I think that ended for the most part in the early 50's. High end cars continued it, now it is showing up in more vehicles. :2cents: Someone on here that knows more about it will tell us for sure.

Back in the mid '60's, I owned a '48 Chevy sedan delivery with a floor board mounted starter switch and it was factory.

You'd turn the dash mounted key to "on", step on the ignition switch with your foot to fire it up. The switch was located near the throttle pedal so you could give it gas while you were starting it up.

Keyed ignition systems were a big improvement over these systems. Funny, what was old is new again...

I myself have no desire 2, but you can install a push button starter in our bumps. Wouldn't B hard 2 do.

My old step-dad's 55 or 57 chebby truck had the same floor mounted starter button from the factory. Try growing up in a mountainous city with stop signs everywhere on 40+ degree inclines and a foot starter! Oh the memories...

It was something a PO did. No 67 to my meager knowledge came stock with such a set up. I would bet my last $100 on it which is about all I have left. lol.

When I brought my 71 home it had a button mounted under the dash and wired to the solenoid . To start the truck I had to turn the key and then push the button. I turns out that the only problem was the safety switch on the column was broke and the switch under the dash was how the P.O. chose to deal with the problem. :hmm: I don,t know about a 67 though.

It is much better than the old fashioned push button...push your truck, then get in and slam it in gear!
