The bathtub is not a parts washer

Post by Swegner99 »

So im doing my front suspension, all new bushings, paint I beams and radius arms, new spring and shocks. I was out in the garage last night and I have everything disassembled and getting it ready for paint. The beams and radius arms are too big for my 10 gallon parts washer, so i decided to use the bathtub because these parts arent full of grease, just dirt. I dont know if anyone else has ever had this bright idea, but don't. The soap scum in the bathtub is a magnet for any particle of dirt. Luckily I have a pretty cool girlfriend, and when she walked in on my scrubbing the tub out, she just about died laughing. Oh well, live and learn I guess, just sharing another life experience, don't make my mistake lol

Ha

One of the best things I did was put a hot water tap in the garage. That coupled with my very hot water and a bit of simple green makes cleaning pretty easy. When I put my shop up I plan to do the same (possibly with it's own instahot so I can get it really really hot).

Yeah, and they have no appreciation for the finer things in life. Few things smell as good as fresh wrinkle on Harley jugs when you first fire it up. But put them in the oven to get that wonderful smell in the house and they turn it into an opera.
Here is an X-ray taken to see what was wrong with me, you may want to have a close look at it as I think yours may be similar.

I think my girlfriend would love for me to use the tub as a parts washer if I was the one who scrubbed the tub after I was done.

I see what's wrong with you in the X-ray Woods--you have no neck! (I couldn't resist this.)

Be advised that women in general tend to lose their sense of humor about this sort of thing fairly quickly.

It is kinda like them going out in the garage and getting one of your limited edition black lacquer screwdrivers to mix paint with...

Also on the "not a great idea" list are:
  • Guns in the dishwasher
  • Boiling thermostats in good pans...
  • Engines in the living room (sometimes you can get away with this for a while by putting a piece of glass on it and calling it a coffee table - this only works if you are presently without a coffee table...)
Just so you know :P
