OT: Progress

Post by Comet »

I know, I know this is not a '67-'72, it's my '61. But I'm so excited the 390 finally went back in! :D Next hurdle is to figure out the bell crank for the shift linkage. I dropped and moved the motor back 2" in each direction, now the steering box interferes with the bell crank. I'm kinda stumped on a solution, but I'm spending most of tomorrow trying to figure it out.
Oh, and on the '67-'72 front, Fordpickup460 and I swapped steering columns so he can put an NP435 in his hiboy and I can put the C6 in mine. Lot's of fun stuff going on this week!

460 Crew, this is his other truck. His flattend one is an F-150 and is still flat :(
Thanks everyone for the nice words. I'm real happy. I keep telling everyone if it runs as good as it looks, I'm a real happy camper.
On the color, I wanted something a little more vintage Ford than the 'ol blue. Plus, I've had so many Ford blue motors I wanted a change. Red looks a little more hot rod IMO.
I had the valve covers chromed after looking high and low at swaps, on line, etc. for decent ones. I'm not really sure how much it was just for the VCs, they did not break it out. The fan was the single most expensive ($700) because of the hardness of the steel and the polishing they had to do. I busted the dip stick tube that I had chromed when installing it. The dipstick itself is chrome and so I just went to the bone yard and got a new tube and painted it. I still need to buy a chrome alt. and headers, but the starter and everything else is shiny.

Oh, and to answer Trukcrazy's tranny question. For now it's a T-18. After some time goes by and the bank acct. gets back to normal I want to find a toploader from a Galaxy or Fairlane.

Will a hydraulic clutch system work there? That is a nice piece you have going on there. :D

I have always wanted to chrome the POWER BY FORD valve covers. A couple of weeks ago I stripped all the paint off of them because I was thinking of trying to polish them. I knew I could not get them to look like that so I just painted them. That engine looks really good.
