Did that one time out in the boonies with a roll back tow truck. Out to do a winchout and ended up knocking a steer tire off the bead, no cell phone and on board air wasn't going to do the trick. You do what you have to do, not something I'd do if I had the right stuff laying around tho. I did the "stand back and flick matches" method, my way was alot slower but gave me just a tad more cushion.... still was faster than swapping a duel off the back into it's place.
I'm sure that wasn't Wd-40 he was using tho

I actually made my own "bead blaster" but I have done that quite a number of times with starting fluid. Mostly with sand paddles. They peel off the bead now and then.

Good day Randy,

How that is an amazing video--I've never heard of anything like that before! The amount of force required to make a big tire like that poof up with air instantly is crazy, and I'm inclined to agree with Jamie that it looks supremely dangerous. Wow!!!

I watched them do this with starting fluid (ether) on Ice Road Truckers. I remember thinking it looked like a good way to blow yourself up, but apparently it is pretty common... :hmm:

Thats how ive inflated all the tires ive changed on my dumptruck. Id hook up the airhose to the valve stem and have the GF stand back with the air line kinked waiting for me to light it to release the airhose. When it lit she would drop the hose, put her hands up and do a run-n-place dance and let out a little scream for 2-3 seconds.

It's very common. While I have never had or seen an accidents from it, or even heard of one for that matter. There is no way I would call it 'safe'. It's been done for a lot of years, so I am sure something bad must of happened in that time. I don't know what, but something. I always hold my mouth right when I do it, so nothing to worry about there.
