1960 F250 Crew Cab

Post by dolinick »

I just found this on GSAAUCTIONS.GOV

It says "ran when parked" but also says 49840 miles on the clock. :?

It is in Kansas and there are almost seven days left on the auction. It has seven bidders already and is at $1550.00
Sale-Lot Number: 61QSCI12005008

Is this a one off military vehicle or do others exist?

Anyway I thought yall might like to know about it and see the photos.

there are others. stageway and crown are the two major "coachbuilders" that ford used back then for crew cabs. they also made two door extended cabs.

that looks like a '60 model. 57 was ok, but 58-60 were definitely off on their looks.

'Evening Dan,

I love that truck! I know that many guys think the '60 model's ugly, but I'm partial to it. That bull-dog style has character in abundance!

Having owned and driven a '60 for a year or two also helped me to build an appreciation for it. I'd love to own one again some day. Here's my only photo of my old '60:

Image

When its 240-6 blew up I sold it to a buddy for $300, and he put a car 390+C6 in it, then sent it flying off a cliff on a mountain road. He (miraculously) walked from the accident, but the '60 was severely bent up, and got scrapped.

I wanna say this was a "brush truck" or in a fire department of some kind. Could there have been a tank or pump in the back?

I think you are right about it being in a fire department, judging by the color and the number on the door with the reflective stickers. My best guess would be this truck started its life out as a SAC (strategic air command) truck. They made lots of custom 4-door pickups for the pilots and crew to throw their bags into and drive to their plane in a hurry during the cold war. After a while I assume it was passed on to the local fire department. They likely used it as a ramp (airfield) truck and most likely had a dry chemical extinguisher setup in the back of it. Since it is 2wd I doubt it was a brush truck. Where is the truck located?

Good day Bill,

The truck's in Kansas. The reason I know this, is that if it were nearby me, I would be in serious trouble, because it would no doubt be on its way to joining my fleet. I love this thing!

i kinda thought it was fire fighting related (and aircraft related too) ,they use alot of ancient machinery at some of the airports around here there used to be an early (probably 50-51)dodge power wagon used at the Victoria International Airport
