OUCH!
Well, I'll tell you what. Doing stupid stuff hurts a heck of a lot more when you get old.
I have one of the older Coats pneumatic tire machines in my shop. This of course leads to my friends wanting to use it. So my friend's Wife shows up with some of those goofy extremely low profile tires and asks if I will mount them up. Now, these things may as well be made out of hard plastic. My machine was never made to handle tires like this, but I can usually get them on with some fighting.
So, I am down to the last tire and this thing is a real battle. My machine is trying to rip the tire because I am having trouble getting the mounted part of the tire down below the high part of the wheel. Now, I have my foot on the peddle, the machine has pretty much stalled out, the tire is close to the right spot for it to go on. Being a dope, I just gave it a slight nudge with my left hand. Now, keep in mind that the bar on the machine has built up...oh, I don't know, eight zillion pounds of force, but is held back by the tire I am now beating on.
I'm sure you can see where this is going. It comes free and it smacks me right it the forearm. It hit my arm so hard that it actually dislocated my elbow from it's socket and cracked the bone in my forearm. To top it off, it's cold out, everything hurts worse when it's cold. So now, I am trying to cram my arm back into the socket while turning beet red from the pain. This may be surprising, but, I'm no doctor, so this is not working out so smooth.
I got a ride to the E.R, they drugged me up and got a few guys to pop it back into the socket. My forearm is cracked, so the wrapped that up too. Now I am bored and sitting around the house. Daytime TV blows.
My girl's Sisters came up to help out with some stuff that I started around the house, but can't finish right now. So, I have been sitting around all looped out on pain pills and staring at pretty girls working on my house...things could really be a lot worse. But...my arm does hurt.

Damn man. That sucks a big one. Glad you're ok tho. Could have popped out & knocked you right up side the head!
How long are you gonna be out of service? Looks like you have a good crew to help you out around the house.

Yep, just as I figured... Noticed you hadn't been on today, figured you did something dumb

Wait...I didn't know my ex moved to St. Louis?fomocoguy wrote:A shot to the head probably would have took you out! You're lucky though; instead of inviting her sisters over to help my gal would crab about how hard it is on her having me out of comission and make the situation twice as miserable for everyone.
Yeah, what really crossed my mind was it hitting me right in the teeth. Now that would have been some pain.
As for as how long I will be down, I'm not sure. If it was summer times and the gals were wearing skimpier outfits, I could see myself being laid up for months.

I reality, The cast will be on for a while, but my hands still work okay. It's not like I have to dig a ditch for a living, I can work, I will just be slowed down a bit. I figured I would rest it for a couple days until the throbbing of it slows down a bit. That, and I don't think a guy wants me building his engine with a head full of pills.
On second thought, I could run a discount price. "Sure, I may leave out your oil pump and number 7 piston, but it will be cheap".

Damn, I'm glad it wasn't worse. Sounds like it was bad enough as it is. Take it easy. Just kick back and enjoy being taken care of.

Re: OUCH!
I already lost the tip of my index finger in a motorcycle brake rotor. Long story, the short version is, watch where you put your fingers when dragging a dirtbike out of a ditch. Sheared it off so fast that I did not even know it happened until I was up on the road and saw the blood. So, that was a fun ride back to the truck.71fordkid wrote:glad your ok, it definately could have been alot worse. i cracked myself in the head with a motorhome brake caliper once. Yeah, the Beavers fan is the oldest of the bunch, the one of the right is "mine?" They are all good people and fun to be around.

We live, we endure large amounts of pain, and we learn... We are men. (most of us on the boards) Though sometimes we don't learn the first time.

Impressive!
I got mine leaving forks up on my forklift a few months back. Layed me out, down with a "ping", fork still ringing, on the concrete.
