2001 F250 super duty ext cab 4x4 V10. The fuel mileage is horrible, but it does everything I need it to do.

Re: What's your daily driver?
I had a v-10 a few years back, the nice thing about it was I always knew what kind of mileage I would be getting. Loaded or unloaded, pulling a fully loaded trailer, uphill or downhill, or just in town, it would always be right at 10 MPGdirtwrench wrote:2001 F250 super duty ext cab 4x4 V10. Re: What's your daily driver?
Gotta love the v10. we had a guy who used an extended cab shortbed 250 with a v10 to tow a trailer for his excivation company. he switched to a 6.4 and was raving about the milage. he said he went from 6 to 17 mpg. Hes getting a 6.7 in a few months, and I'll bet we'll be hearing about how great that truck is pretty soon.
.
Ive seen 6.4L's get as bad as 2.3 mpg. of course, that was a gvw 17500# F-550 with a service body/crane, and hi-rails (used to drive on railroad tracks). that was a BNSF truck.

Re: What's your daily driver?
10mpg with my V10 is about right- hubs locked or not, with or without trailer attached. But like I said- it does everything I want it to do, including getting my tired butt home from work at midnight when the snow is drifted. It replaced a 99 f150 with 5.4, so I really only lost a couple mpg's.

Bronco II anyone? I'm looking for a winter daily driver while my bump is put away. Are they okay or just plain junk?

Re: What's your daily driver?
They're a bit weak in stock form for serious off road action but they're a great little run about 4x4. Find one with a 5 speed, as the AOD is weak and robs a lot of power, especially if it's an 85 or older with the carbed 2.8L. The 1986-up 2.9L is much more powerful, and with a 5 speed is fun to drive. The best part is how manueverable they are. You can turn around on a dime and fit it anywhere.Florian wrote:Bronco II anyone? I'm looking for a winter daily driver while my bump is put away. Are they okay or just plain junk?
I had a really nice 1985 Eddie Bauer edition, but with the 2.8 and automatic it was painfully slow, especially at highway speeds or big hills.

Thanks for the info, fomocoguy! What kinda gas mileage did you get with the 2.8 auto? How easy are repairs? How is the spare parts situation?
Thanks!

Re: What's your daily driver?
Unless the heater core leaks and they bypassed it, it might not take much toArchinto wrote:I drove my moms old 89 Suburban for about 7 or 8 years (loved every second of it) then I bought a new car. get it going. Often it's the heater control valve that is kaput, froze up, etc..
Also, make sure it has the correct thermostat in it. That would be extra important
in your cold location. Too cold an engine is inefficient, causes more wear, and will
make the heater temps too cold if it's way off the usual temp. No stat at all
will really whack the heater. I can't live without a heater myself.. brrrrr..
I can take no A/C a lot easier than I can no heater..
