Ordering Parts In Canada.

Post by SomersMerc »

Hi.
I recently recieved a LMC parts catelog in the mail and noticed that they only ship UPS to Canada. Previous experience with UPS has not been very good as I find that they charge way to much for Customs Brokerage fees etc. Does anyone know of any places in Canada that I can order parts for a F100 (Mercury100).

Thank you.

Depends what kind of parts your looking for but you can get a bunch through Napa or other parts stores. At least I've been able to here in Ontario.

I have found the same thing with ups and fedx, the break you fee opps brokerage fee sorry that was my inside voice. If you order from Dennis Carpenter and you can keep your orders under $100 they will ship your parts out via the US postal service. I think they ship the parts out on thursday's and seems to take 3-4 weeks to get depending on the wait at customs. If you are close to the us border you can have parts shipped to the US side and go down and pick them up. The last part I bought from Dennis Carpenter took about 5 days to get to Montana, then I went down and got it. That way is for sure the quickest I have come across. I was keeping my orders under $100 and having it shipped up here but now I just take the little drive and pick up the parts. It has been a father/son bonding time and he gets a toy if he has been good on the trip. I am lucky I am less than 2 hours from the border.

I haven't looked for parts for a Mercury as mine is a Ford. I was told by my parts guy to build Fords as most of the reproduction places have parts for Fords and very few have parts for Mercury.

I am in Victoria. what I do is get it shipped to Seattle clipper (passenger ferry) and they ship it here for a small fee. When it gets here I get an invoice and take it to the customs office and pay my HST. I don't have to pay PST on parts that are this old. Some of my buddies use Viking air and do the same thing. I would look into some of the air lines that are more cargo specific and see if there is an option for you. A lot of times you can get free shipping in the states to the air port, or ferry. That helps. if it's ups i don't buy it!

Ya'll better hang onto your hats! I've always thought just the opposite, (our USPS is so...slow-but yes cheap). Yesterday they announced they will become even slower.
I gladly pay UPS or FedEx to make sure I get my packages, (as well as they ones I ship).

Greetings from Calgary!

I have ordered parts from LMC and Dennis Carpenter (and others in the US). I have a friend who lives just North of the Canada - USA border in British Columbia, and he has both a post office address and a parcel delivery address. He has gratiously offered to let me use those addresses as needed. He goes across the border every so often and picks up whatever comes in, and pays the duty for me. I pay him back and get the merchandise the next time I get by his place. In this way the shipping cost is a lot less, as it is cheaper to ship within the USA than directly to Canada. So, I save a bit there. Also, because I live in Alberta, and the parcels are sent to me C/O my buddy's address, I do not have to pay the Hateful Sales tax (HST) that applies to British Columbia residents. All I pay is the "duty" on the US purchase amount. Ocassionally, the friendly Customs agent (who knows my friend very well) will even waive that if the dollar amount is relatively small.

Regarding your comment about Mercury vs. Ford parts, please note that these vehicles are identical (except for a few cosmetic things like emblems and marker light locations). So, all Ford truck parts fit all Mercury trucks of the same year. As a matter of fact, they all have the same Ford Motor Company part numbers!

That's hilarious. Sounds about like the depth of knowledge of those big chain store 'parts' boys...
