Why an F250?
Haven't posted in a long time and haven't done anythin gto my ride but I just got to wondering when converting a 2wd bump to a 4wd bump why is it that most go with the f250 frame swap and not a f150? Seems the f150 would be easier to locate.

Re: Why an F250?
Im sure there are a multitude of reasons folks go to 3/4 ton vs half ton when going through all the trouble to convert thier 2wd bumps to 4x4. First reason is that im assuming that most people who would want to undertake this swap in the first place are doing so because they want to be able to do more with their truck. ok well half ton or beefier 3/4? half ton tranfer cases only have 2wd high and 4wd high no low range wehre the 250s have low range t-cases. maybe parts are easier to get for f250s...I seem to see more f250 4x4s than I see f100/150 4x4s these days. Im sure it all boils down to personal preference.I know if I were going to do such a swap id use 3/4 ton stuff.

Re: Why an F250?
If you are looking to turn your 2wd into a 4x4 by doing a chassis swap (the way to do it), grab a highboy chassis (67-77.5 f250 4x4). Much beefier in every aspect compared to a f100 4x4. Leaf sprung, D44 HP or even D60 front if "newer" highboy used, beefier frame, D60 rear, etc.
And if you don't want to have to deal with converting to power steering or the low pinion 44 then grab a newer highboy chassis. You will have to make new bed mounts, though.

Re: Why an F250?
I guess their just an all around beefer truck for a swap? I jus new that Chevy guys usually not always but usually just swapped in some 1/2 ton axles and a transfer case and bing-bam I'm a big boy now but Ford bump guys (like my self and others) use 3/4 ton, well not me as in I have swapped, but I have thought alot about it and flipped flopped on CV swap or 4x4 swap. If you did do a 4x4 swap could you use the 302 and C4 from the 2wd? most 3/4 have a 390, 360, 460 or somthing of that nature.

Re: Why an F250?
I like the video and all, but are we really going to call these trucks a Chevy and a Ford after all that work.
Anyway, F250 is just a better base to get what most people want. But nothing wrong with a 1/2 ton done right.

Re: Why an F250?
One thing about a 1/2 ton is they're lighter.
If you're trying to go fast ,less weight = free horse power.
A 9" and a Dana 44 will take a lot of abuse , especially if there isn't an extra 1000 lbs on them.
even lighter is an early Bronco (or a Jeep, Ford powered of course.)
Now I've seen some wicked 3/4 tons that are unstoppable.
But I've seen a lot that got stuck because they were big heavy pigs and ran out of power while some light weights drove around them.
