Having stood on the memorial of the USS Arizona several times when my ship pulled into Hawaii, I can tell you first hand it is a very emotional feeling, knowing you are paying respect to all the defenders of this nation, and the 1100 men entombed below.

"But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract."
Those men who went before us set a precedence. At all costs you maintain your duty station. That applies in any conflict. These men set the standard for all who served. Without their heroic sacrifice we would not be allowed to live in a country today where we are at least somewhat insulated from the rest of the worlds conflicts and problems even though we continue to send off young men and women to achieve our best interests. To those fallen heroes who came from ordinary walks of life I doff my cap and salute them. Without them I would have no reason to feel the pride I do in having done my own stint in the service.

Their sacrifice set the foundation for the following generations, serving your country was a privilege;
living in this country was a bigger privilege.
Somehow a Thank You will never go far enough for what they and their families sacrificed, And I'll never
forget or take for granted The United States Service Personal who ensured my life of freedom.
