Yeah, the laws don't seem to actually apply to LAW enforcement. In example...a million years ago when was a kid, they got all hot and heavy on bumper height and mud flaps. If your bumper was more than (I want to say like 22 inches) off of the ground, then you had to BY LAW have mud flaps. Yeah, go and and measure a stock high boy. So a stock rig won't pass.

Well, my friends and I were getting these tickets left and right. I actually made the statement to a cop (being a smartass kid) "you clowns will send me to the CHAIR before I put mud flaps on my truck". That went over well.

Anyway...I had complained to my old man about this about a dozen time, because his high school buddy was chief of police. Of course, Dad did not care, it did not have an impact on him and like most things that do not effect him personally, he does not care about. But then...the old man gets pulled over driving his bone stock high boy and is given a fix it ticket for no mud flaps. The war was OOONNN!

Oh, it became a big production number. My Father had the judge come out to the parking lot with him while he put a measuring tape on all the State police and County sheriff pickups...ALL which were higher than the law stated they can be and none had mud flaps.

Dad did not have to fix anything and it was dropped. As a matter of fact, in our town, the big mud flap crack down had stopped completely after that. Sometimes it just takes one angry old dude to slap some common sense into the situation.

Poll is B.S.
No option for an outright ban.
F@#% cellphones and those addicted to them.
Aww c'mon man tell us what you really think!
I think the last option would pretty much cover you ok.

Woods, I remember those days well. I remember the guys up north having to build onto a "sub-frame" to create the lower bumper height required. I was in Florida back then, laws we had there were based on weight-so most of the 1/2 ton rigs we used in the swamps down there flew under the radar.

Well, I'm an old stodge so I'd like to see some requirement that all these 4X4, double cab, dually, epic diesel pits have to have mud flaps. Didn't used to care, but a chunk of rock through the windshield on my Zuki back in 09 changed my mind. When I was a high school caveman we had the opposite problem...everybody was raising their rides in the rear with slicks and droppin' the front. We used to get stopped and measured to see if the front bumper was too close to the ground...had to be at least a foot if I remember right. Had to jam spring spacers/risers in the front coils of my old Studebaker to just barely pass...flat-head six with three carbs, man it would fly.
As for the poll, I voted...and wish like hell all cellphones while driving would be banned nationwide...let's see, you can get liquor, beer, any flavor of street drugs you want, and now throw in constant phone use...oh for the days of horns and single digit communication.

oh for the days of horns and single digit communication.
Are you kiddin'? My horns been broke since I owned the truck, (yeah I've needed it many...times too).
I so...need the bumper sticker "horn broke-watch for finger". Although I should finally have the horn working real soon now, (half my issue was the steering column-which I'm almost past now).

The latest on this from yahoo is that it will probably fall upon each state, (to regulate and dictate whether or not they want to ban the use of a particular device or not). I believe this will become a "gray area" real soon when you think about the following.
I live 5 miles from the Georgia state line, (where I've been told Georgia has a ban on texting when driving). And yet Tennessee where I live has no ban.
Yet when I cross the state line, (usually a daily basis for work) there is nothing that tells me about a ban?
Would each state have to erect a large monitor at the state line informing us of driving regulations? I bet they wouldn't, just like the old saying "ignorance of the law-is no excuse".

And how about the huge new style digital billboards on the side of the roads now? Wouldn't they also classify as a major distraction-should we ban them as well? :hmm:

Yes, but what if I have a lit sign in my truck.
I want a law that states no pretty girls in your truck next to you. I've almost cashed due to that.

The only law involving women in a truck should be...NO CRYING.

Woods :nono: Its not the one next to me that gets me...

Its the tank top wearing, well endowed, redhead in a CJ on 35"s with a bumper sticker that says "If you're gonna ride my @55, at least pull my hair" that damn near got me  . Almost drove my '69 F-100 right over the Nissan pick-up in front of me to try to keep up with her :D

Distractions are everywhere. Can't use my cell phone in my bump anyway. Volume on the phone is to soft. Can't hear it.

Ya'll made another good point...they could also throw DVD players into the ban, (the headrest mounted ones). I've caught myself many days with the pedal to the floor trying to catch up to the SUV in front of me, (to see if Wile Coyote survived or not)!

We have one. There, now you don't need a sign. :P Furthermore it applies at stoplights/while stopped and looking down repeatedly is sufficient evidence. I've seen no evidence it reduced the amount of texting while driving.

The other day a Sheriff's car crossed the center line and almost struck me head on, I had to move into a turn lane to miss him. He was on his hand held phone. He did have sufficient awareness to look at me like *I* was the moron.

I can completely get behind that, I HATE bill boards, ALL billboards. I say we ban all roadside signs. Write your congressman. I'm not kidding.

I've got mixed views on this one. Ban texting yes but cell phone use is a gray area for me. I will answer while driving but if I have to make a call I'll pull over to dial then pull back out onto the road. In some situations I won't even answer it because driving takes all the concentration I have.

First, if every person who used a cell phone while driving pulled to the side of the road, I believe it would create a greater potential for accidents when they try to re-enter moving traffic (especially where I live in southern California). Most drivers can barely parallel park or back up in a straight line.

Second, sending text while driving could be stopped with some kind of dampening device installed in a vehicle.

Third, almost all drivers have done something careless at one time or another while behind the wheel. The difference with cell phones and texting is the amount of people doing it. Frankly, I am surprised that there haven't been more accidents related to it.

A couple of days ago I was driving and noticed a person of advanced age texting in her Plymouth and I physically shuttered. Scary stuff. I'm always looking behind myself when braking.
