Yeah, but "Big Brother" has taken that away, too...

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Come on guy's, give me a break here...I'm just along for the ride
I know that my electric company would never spy on me, or radiate me on purpose.
I am just trying to have some fun here.....I know that the helio-choppers that fly over every nite are first aid rescue units taking injured folks to hospitals... car wrecks & all the domestic stuff.
I'm about 60 miles out of the flight path to the trauma center, but with the economy in the crapper, I can only assume that they may be hiring pilots that are instrument-ly handicapped & get a bit off course...of course...........Mel :)

Back to the serious side of this that I remembered this morning when I heard the electric heat kick on...
From my commercial building management energy reduction techniques.
The power grid does have "peak usage" or several of these times during a 24 hour period. This is also public information-yet each region or area is different. A critical key to reducing your energy bill is reduction during that time period. What I'll do is crank the heat or A/C prior to that peak to get the house to "my comfort zone"-then throttle back or let it idle during the peak. It'll save you tons on your electric bill!
Another thing most utility companies do is referred to as "selective brown-outs", Florida is real big on this during the coldest part of the winter. In real...simple terms: it's the utility companies admitting they can't keep up with the demand of the population-so they shut down part of the grid at peak usage instead of damaging power generating equipment attempting to keep up.
How would Florida approach this in terms of who got shut down?
Really simple-the working class neighborhoods where I lived for some 19 years was always the first to get "kicked off the grid"! :hw:
It would usually be around 3 or 4 in the morning and in the 30's down there and then:
Boom-boom-out go the lights!

Try throttling back during your hottest/coldest times of the day guys-it works!

Well, we all know that lights, money, food or heat are not really needed by the working class. I mean...what if Theodore Bottomtooth the third's tanning bed lost power for 20 minutes. That's when society as we know it would collapse.

Okay...so, I'm not so sure they are out to get me (as much). So here's the deal...My house is on well water. The well is pretty deep, a little over 400 feet. Which makes no sense because I live on the friggin river bank (no they won't let me pull water from the river, I asked). ANYWAY, The well does not deliver enough water volume to run a wash, shower, flush the toilet, etc. I don't recall the flow, but it's not so hot. So I have the well water pump into a large fresh water holding tank in the ground. Then from the holding tank, the water is pumped into a pressure tank, then into the house.

Yesterday, I was out there messing around and I notice that the pump (the going to the pressure tank) is running about five times as long as it should to build up the pressure. Hmm, well that's not right. So I pull the lid off the holding tank and I see the problem, the pipe going from the pump to the pressure tank has a hole in it. So, it's bleeding off a lot of the pressure that should be going to the tank.

This critter has been using my power I believe. Oh, this gets better though. So, when I go to fix the pipe, I take a light and shine it down in the tank to fix it. The bottom of the tank is just full of dirt. That's no good. So now I have to pump out the tank, squeeze my gorilla butt down into it and get to cleaning. That's sounds like fun.

I have one of those big carpet drying fans. I think if I duct that down into it.... it should move enough air to make it alright.

Old plumber's rule- NEVER ENTER THE CISTERN OR WELL WHEN ALONE! Call anyone you trust to help/pay attention. I personally know the feeling of falling in a well & being helped out of it by my coworker. For the record, that nylon rope he drped around me hurt like hell in my side, but it got me out.

For the sake of electrical useage, make sure your pressure tank has 2lbs less air pressure in it than the cut in pressure of your pump. It will save many minutes a day of the pump kicking in and out. The hardware will last longer and your light bill is lower.

I would have my girl watch me, but I think she may try and fill it full of dirt when I'm down there.

It's the atmosphere that will kill you (or lack of). I've been in a 300 gallon mixing vat mounting the auger (lift and turn to lock) and ran out of air, almost didn't make it to the manhole as I was blacking out. There may be some bad stuff in the mud in the bottom that'll knock the oxygen out of your air in the tank.

Woods- That is why I suggested someone you can trust. No way I have my bride for help- she is the beneficiary on my life insurance. I have a buddy or one of my sons there every time. I know they will pull my fat butt out.

Ranchero- You are correct, but it doesn't really matter what kills you if you are dead because no one was there to help you get out. My fall in a well came when the platform (a couple old rotten 1x12's) collapsed under me. Thank god it was a small diameter brick lined well. I got stopped with my feet & hands pushing on the walls and held myself there until coworker could get the rope down & around me.

Haha! If you have a "gorilla butt" like you say, she may not be strong enough to pull you out if needed.

Good luck and stay safe!
