I Need A Vacation From My Vacation! *Photos Added*

Post by ford4x4fun »

So I went home for Christmas, 16 hour drive all the way up there. Not so bad except my buddy drove up from Ft Campbell. And has become somewhat of an alcoholic, I don't drink like I use to, and let me tell you I liked seeing him, but my kidneys where glad to see him go after his three day visit.

Than my father-in-law needed help cutting wood which I don't mind, what pissed me off is my POS brother-in-law just watched me do all the work and never offered to help. But it was a good time (I will post some pics up later).

The next day 2 days before Christmas I get all cleaned up to go visit friends and family to wish them a Merry Christmas and what not. My first stop was the house of my adopted family, the family where if I wasn't at my house I was at there house. I jump out of my truck with a big fruit basket, wishing my friends sister who is standing on the porch a Merry Christmas. She politely informs me that their father had just passed away in his sleep that morning. Talk about being caught off guard.

So now I am helping with the funeral, and just trying to be a good friend to my buddy. This was unexpected and they where not financially prepared for it so I chipped in with what I could. The kicker of all of this is the people that where suppose to back fill the grave didn't show up. So my buddy and I and one other guy that use to hang out with us berried my friends dad.

So we do Christmas, and hit the road to come home. I have to drop my youngest off in Charleston WV so his mom can see him so I take 77 down to FL via 26 and I-95. What should have been a 16 hour trip ended up being 22 hours long.

On a brighter note though I forced myself to get up yesterday and cleaned out my garage. My truck is in the drive way with the motor ready to be pulled. I pick up my new gaskets tomorrow, so I am going to try to have it put back together by the time I am off of leave. I also ordered a 2 inch body lift, and a high performance water pump for the old girl! Now I have a week and a half with nothing to do but work on the truck. :woohoo:

Sounds like a heck of a trip, sorry to hear about your friends dad, that's a bummer. Glad you got out of town for a few days, its always nice to just get away for a while. I went up to Vegas, its only about an hour and a half trip but with the old ladies kids being at their dads house, we were all alone so got away for a bit. Glad you had a good time!

On somewhat of a side note...I was just thinking the other day of how much I hated cutting firewood when I was a kid. Now, I actually kinda enjoy doing it. I guess it's not so bad when someone is not yelling at you to do it, then telling you that you did it wrong when you're finished.

Nice pix...are those your BIL's? Look kinda young to be much help cutting wood...unless you can figure out a way to do it with a Playstation or Gameboy. I've got six BIL's and I never count on any of them if Daddy in law and I are really working on something. Tits on a boar...or something like that.

My oldest is turning 14 in Feb and is like a little Russian tank, he is a good helper and worker. My youngest is 10, and was good at stacking and loading the split wood. He also enjoyed using the wood splitter. But it is just easier to split them with a splitting maul. Overall they earned their dinner that night for sure!

You've got a good pair of boys there, and got in some good father-son time, too...take them fishin' as relief from your vacation.
