I saw the title of this thread, and thought that just perhaps someone else here had a "Volvo 240", I had three of them, though not all at the same time. I guess I'm still a little newbie to know all the different Ford engines,
I guess it's not just Ford trucks that create hopeless automotive obsessions :help:

When I was about my sons age I rode with my dad from Grand Lake Colorado To Denver to do a job with him. That old 240 4 speed never missed a beat going over Coffee Divide and Bertha Pass. I can't remember the exact change in altitude but it was a significant climb for the old truck, and she just purred along. We didn't set a land speed record but we made it!
That would likely be a 215, or 223, in a 1958 truck. Probably the 223. They didn't start selling the truck 240's until about 1964,
with the 300's showing up in 65.

I'm right there with ya, Danno. Why be normal?
My first thought was that the 300 6 had to go. But the more I read about them...I decided to keep it and modify it.
I just bought a '67 parts truck with either a 240 or 300 in it (have yet to ID it). Stay tuned for possible parts or entire truck.

The 68 has it's original 240, as strong as ever, i've owned serveral with 240s and loved them all. I've had a lot of different Ford powerplants over the years but the most reliable has always been these little 240s.

It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it. Seriously I love the Big Block Six (240/300). My '83 had a 300 straight six and a C6, and it was plenty of fun. If something were to ever go bad on my 360FE, I'd put in a 300 with a 240 head. Too many guys pull out the 240 and put in a V8...worse, they'll pull out a capable and torquey straight six for a "five-oh" out of a Mustang that makes power right where a truck doesn't use it. I wish many happy miles for your 240, my friend.
