Your All's Inputs
I am in the putting my truck back together faze, and starting to look into painting my truck. Seeing how it is not going to be a 4x4 highway queen and actually used as a 4x4 toy what do you all think about using a roll in bed liner as a paint? Here is a photo I found of one done.

That truck looks too uniform to be rolled on. Sprayed on maybe? Still looks cool.

I read the article on that truck it was a spray in... I think I would be able to spray it
Maybe not be able to get it that even though!

Re: Your All's Inputs
There is one reason that I wouldn't do it. If it ever started to look bad, or you decided to change the color, removal would be a nightmare. I think if you kept all the chrome and shiny trim it would probably look pretty cool though!

Is that special radar absorbing paint?

Re: Your All's Inputs
Good afternoon Ford4x4Fun,
I've been curious about how that would look for a Bumpside for a while. And Craig actually made a post asking for opinions on this a while back that might interest you: Bad Idea or Good Idea?
At the time I replied to Craig saying that I thought this type of finish looked good on the more plain lines of modern pickups, but might diminish the beautiful curves of a Bumpside.
But now that I'm thinking it over again, I'm not sure--it might look great. It sure looks practical and tough-as-nails compared to paint!

Go for it!
Go for grit!
COLOR IT! (To accentuate the body lines)
And make sure you use one that's UV safe...

Re: Your All's Inputs
I actually did this to a Jeep CJ. It was really thrashed and rusty. A buddy of mine was starting a spray in bed liner business and hosed it for the price of material. Tell you one thing, it sure made it quiet (for a Jeep). It's a lot like getting a tattoo, make sure you REALLY want it.

I'm one of the 62% here this morning, go for it! I also know how brutal the Florida environment is down there and this should help the body last a little longer.

Seen a few locally this way...all but one is peeling, looks like crap when it peels...save your money or try something smaller first.

Re: Your All's Inputs
So what you are saying is that only seen 1 guy's truck in your neck of the woods who actually took the time and money to do good prep work and buy good quality liner with UV-protectant, and that everyone else just rolled or shot the cheaper stuff over their dirt and or rust to hide it for a while.

Re: Your All's Inputs
I am thinking I am going to do this. But I will buy the good stuff and do a the best prep work that I can. I have hauled wood and stuff in trucks that have this stuff and it really is bullet proof. Done correctly I have only seen one get messed up. That was a buddy of mine that loaded his motorcycle wrong and than drove over 1200 miles with the kickstand down. It wore a quarter size hole in it to the metal. I will keep you all posted on how I do this. I have get the proper equipment to spray it on first and than I will practice on the underside of the cab and bed before I do the exterior. So I am thinking for about 1000 dollars I will have a bullet proof "paint" job that I can take the woods and not worry about scratching!

Good afternoon Ford4x4Fun, I really like this idea! I can't wait to see how it turns out. Our trucks are supposed to be outdoor creatures after all!

Re: Your All's Inputs
I think I am going to keep it simple, and go with the black, and than a gray in the interior. I think that will make the shocks and springs stand out. I need to pull my sport custom badges out and clean them up real good. I think with those on her all shiny with the chrome bumpers and the thin 69 trim the truck will look pretty darned cool. Here is a photo of the durabak sample they sent me.

Good evening Ford4x4Fun,
That sample looks excellent! Looks extremely tough. And being able to sharpen your pocket knife on your hood will be nice. I know, Woods might have said "Samurai Sword," instead of pocket knife but I'm just a cadet.
