XDM .40 Cal. Good pistol?

Hi guys, I had a call last night on my welder I have for sale. The guy wants to trade me his XDM .40 caliber pistol. Its about a year and a half old and has 300 rounds through it. I really dont want a trade but I also need the space in the garage for my detail business. So I figure I can get $550 for all my welding stuff. Is this a fair trade?? Anyone with experience with this gun? How does it shoot? What is the resale value?

How big is your welder? Seems a welder wouldn't take up much room and could be used for income if you listed on CL. A gun isn't real useful until you need one...

I don't have any experience, but "XDM .40 Cal" is not sufficient description to answer, they are available in various sizes and packages and with and without night sights. I think you can buy new ones between about 500.00 and 750.00.

This is the description the guy gave me. XDM .40 with match grade barrel, 2 16 round clips. All of the XDM gear. I will let you know the model # as soon as he lets me know.

If you strongly feel that you can get 550 out of your welder, then no, not really a good trade on your part unless he throws in like 150.

I'll take a welder over a pistol any day.

I say pass on it, but I guess it depends on how bad you want a pistol.

What kind of welder is it you have anyway?

Hard call.. The used prices is what would really matter.. Those are $660 or so new,
but some pistols are kinda like cars.. You drive em off the lot, and the value takes
a big dive. So I'd get an idea of the going rate for those used before I did anything.
It's kind of a so-so deal from what I can see.

Well I got the XDM .40. Love it! Traded the welder. Plus he gave me some cash. Fun to shoot and very simple to field strip!

cool. how many rounds thru it so far? any opinions? i'd love to hear about it as i have been thinking about getting one, but in .45.

Just get a 22. It lets the guy you shoot hear all the insults you throw at him before he passes away.

Should be pretty good with that match grade barrel. And the .40 S&W is fairly stout for
protection. Could do worse anyway..
My camp pistol is a .40.. Mainly for mean animal protection, but I keep it handy
here at the house for two legged animals that might bust through the door.
I can reach it from where I'm sitting..
With the blunt wad cutter like slug, they punch a pretty good hole.
In the woods I would probably prefer a .357 mag, 10mm, or whatever, but I feel fairly
comfy with the .40. It may not have the brute horsepower of the magnums, but with
with 14-15 rounds, you have plenty of backup rounds if needed. When camping, I carry two
14 round mags. One in the pistol, and an extra in the holster mag pocket. So 29 rounds if
one is in the pipe.
I actually have four mags for it, but I've never bothered loading up more than two at a time.
In the woods, I actually prefer 180 grain FMJ over the hollow points. Cheap "woods" load..
On critters, sometimes the HP's expand too much, and don't penetrate as well.
And they sell 200 grain cast woods loads if you want the real deal. But I'm too cheap to buy
those when I can get the 180 FMJ for about half the price. :/
