Talk about a sleeper

Post by fomocoguy »

I just saw this 79 Mustang on craigslist: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ctd/2771101827.html I don't think I've ever seen a 79 notchback factory V-8 car. It looks more like a Cutlass Ciera or something. My buddy has been trying to sell me a Ford Racing crate 351 (375hp I think?) with like 10k miles on it. This car with that motor sure would surprise a few fellas! 8)

Find one with the T tops if you want rare :)

I liked them, interior feels like a Mustang II, oddball interior door pulls drove people nuts.

I really, really like the "four-eyed foxes". I'm not much of a Mustang guy, I really tend to prefer the bigger, more-comfy cars (Thunderbirds are kind of my thing), but the '79 - '86 Mustangs are pretty appealing.

And at an awesome price too! Would love to have it for nothing else but to pull up to the "rice" and tease them a little-then blow their door away!
One sweet little Fox body for sure.

I owned a 84 GT and a 85 GT.The 84 was a one owner (lady) in excellent condition.
Put a '90 5.0 with cam, hedders,Intake and some more stuff.
Sweet little cars .
At present I have a '93 GT with most "go-fast" parts (except super charger).
I love it .
Course I like Ford Trucks and Ford Mustangs.

its a fox body
the early ones are lighter than later model ones & notchbacks are even lighter still
man if you left those butt lookin wirewheel hubcaps on it after shovin the crate motor in there you'd have the all time king of the sleepers on your hands
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

That's exactly what I was thinking. The biggest problem would be getting any kind of traction out of it. I'd almost have to have the rear wheels widened to fit some bigger meats.

you'd probably want to upgrade to a 5 lug 8.8 rearend ,the early fox mustangs had wimpy little 4 lug ones
the cool thing about fox mustangs is that there's still alot of racing stuff available

it's getting hard to find unmolested fox bodied stangs. especially early v8 four eyes.
