Eco boost

Post by Mancar1 »

Spent a hour yesterday, (while Ford did a so-called free oil change on the Escape), looking at new trucks. Decided to wait for a used low mileage F-150 Lariet with the eco boost 2 come in. Let the 1st owner take the big $$$$$$ hit. I am in no hurry, as I do not need it, just want it. They will start showing up by this summer or so. There are those that swap rides every couple years. I have been guilty of that
Salesman was telling me that the eco boost is a wonderful motor and holds up for the user public very well. I figure he must have a crystal ball he uses  One of my tours of Navy duty was as a Recruiter, a gig I enjoyed very much. Makes it even easier to understand the language of Bull-S__T.
Don't have a lot, but I can't eat it, nor take it with me. So might as well spend it

I should be no secret that I'm a fan of these, I keep threatening to buy one but the fact is that the car I have is fine for no more than I am actually home and it is paid for.

But, I google and read about the Eco-Boost f-150 with some regularity and the feedback is mostly positive. Some complain it doesn't get the mileage they expect then some say they are getting 28ish MPG highway (which is fantastic for a full size truck IMO - gear ratio and driving habits I suspect) and others complain about the exhaust note which doesn't concern me much.

I think the MPG depends on how much pressure one puts on the throttle  I am going to get one, but I only have 18,000 on the 2010 Escape I bought for my late Sweety. I want to get it to at least 30,000 before I pass it to my oldest daughter. (If I can wait that long.) (I hear ya. Paid for is a bigy  )

I have a little insight before the eco-boost came out from an aquaintance of mine. I can tell you this...during lab and track testing, they ran it HARD and had zero issues. He was impressed and does not impress easy. Now, track and lab testing is no real substitute for years and years of starting it in morning cold, not changing the oil enough and driving it in traffic. However, so far so good. I would own one.
In March, I have one coming in (just the engine) to adapt it into a desert car (fancy sandrail). So I'm a bit stoked about that deal. Bet it will flat out scoot.

Im a Service Advisor/Quick Lane manager at the Ford dealership in my town. The only thing I can say about them from the service standpoint is that we hardly ever have them in. Basic stuff, oil changes, trans flushes, regular preventative maintenance. They run strong and hardly any body I have met complains about the MPG's. There is always that one grumpy old man with his King Ranch that calculates his MPG's down to the penny at every fill at the pump, those guys complain, but overall everyone is very satisfied with them. I havent seen any with super high mileage yet, so I cant speak to that, but all in all they are stout and a good investment. I think in the next couple years when my old 1999 dies I will be picking one up, dark shadow grey, lariat with touch screen sync and nav

My should be here in a few weeks! I had to order one as they couldn't find what I wanted.

2012 FX4 Crew w/6.5ft Bed + all the goodies. (Max Tow, Luxury Package, Navigation)

I will semi retire the 67. It will be my mule for sand and gravel, salvage yard runs, etc... That will also let me finish fixing it up a little. Fix some rust, finish the inside, etc...
