Re: O.D
Yeah, I really don't, but I will kick myself for not getting it. I like my 4:11 rear for bumbling around town and such, but I don't like it at 70 mph. This should drop me about a 1000 rpm.
What I always thought would be really cool is if someone made a Dana 60 "style" 2 speed rear with a 4:11 and a 3:00 in it. Since I don't "think" such a thing was ever made. This is a good answer.
Actually, it works out good, because I was just about ready to replace my center driveshaft anyway. I'll just have one made a little shorter.

Re: O.D
You guys and your fancy O.D. units
I just found one of these and plan on doing the install this coming summer.
Clark 264 VO
5 speed w/ O.D. in 5th gear. Came from an FT block in a '67 F-500. Grabbed the bell, flywheel, all the clutch stuff, speedo stuff, front drive shaft, floor pan cover, ect...
Should be lots of fun to install. I'm kinda old school. New stuff bothers me.
Plus i don't have 1K to burn on an O.D.
Does look like a really good deal for getting O.D. in your 4x4

Nice, hope you don't break it. I'm thinking parts will be getting hard to find for the old Clarks...

Well, I was about an hour too late. It was scooped up. Only truck I ever put one in was an 80's F350. I put an 8.2 liter detroit in that pickup (yes really) with the OD. It was kinda neat and worked pretty darn good.

Re: O.D
Two shifters is just a PITA if you drive it at all. Nothing really wrong with the ranger itself (a heck of a lot better than a Volvo car OD unit like a GV), but for a little more the price of an add-on OD you can have a 5 or 6 speed with ONE stick.

Re: O.D
Do we mean "like" a Volvo car unit in the sense of "GV is a Volvo car unit" or "GV is similar to a Volvo car unit"?
I always like the Volvo electric overdrives such as in the 242GT that have a switch on top of the shift knob, but putting 400+ HP through one does not seem like sterling idea...

Re: O.D
Honestly, the only time I was ever going to grab that shifter was to click it into overdrive on the freeway. Which I know is not getting the real use out of it, but the thing is, I like my old four speed and I like my gear ratio most of the time. Idealy, I should get one of the OD units that go on the back of the transfer case. But, I have not seen one for what I would consider a reasonable price yet.

Re: O.D
Yes, The gearvendors OD unit is a Volvo car OD unit. I knew the guy who assembled and tried to market the Gearvendors before selling the whole shebang to it's current owners who've been successfully marketing Volvo car parts as ready to handle 100 HP and 30K GVW.DuckRyder wrote:Do we mean "like" a Volvo car unit in the sense of "GV is a Volvo car unit" or "GV is similar to a Volvo car unit"?
