Best Region for Bumps

Post by couchcuts »

I was drivng my 1970 F100 back to work from lunch today ( about 3 miles ) and I passed two bumps, looked like a 68' and a 72'.

and then I drove past a 60's era ford pickup for sale.

Four good lookin' 40 year old Ford trucks in 3 miles got me thinking....

What region of the country are our Trucks most popular/populated?

thoughts?

The west coast in general. So-cal, Nor-cal, definitely Oregon and Washington have their fare share..

There are loads of them in our area couchcuts. Farm and Ranch country is Ford country.

Dents are fairly plentiful around Pierce Co WA... I usually see 2-4 while driving around my small town... however, I'll also see twice as many slicks(4-8), and double again (8-16) early dents on the same drive, and dozens of newer Super Duty F's. Weird that the slicks seem to be twice as plentiful as the bumps here.

Within a half mile radius, my Seattle 'hood has around 6. About twice that many dents. Plenty of bumps here in King county, most all seem to be very well used and original.

Lakeport, CA has a good showing of Ford trucks of all years. Not unusual to see a bump on my five miles drive to work. This is significant because we have a low population and if I see a dozen vehicles going in both directions on our freeway I consider it rush hour. We moved here to get away from traffic and succeeded.

Around here an old truck is not unusual and all brands are somewhat represented. However, if I drive my bump back to Sonoma County where I am from, I will have the only old truck on a jam-packed freeway.

North Georgia. Just about every farm(big or small) has a bumpside sitting under a pole barn or in the gravel driveway. Mostly Ford country here, few Chevys around and most of them are usually in the hood. But from what I've heard, I there's definitely more bumpsides on the west coast for some reason.

I agree that the left half of the North American continent is king for finding Bumps and similar vintage Ford, GM and Mopar iron that is well preserved be they car or truck.

My guess is it's a perfect storm of demographics (think large population), climate, lack of salting roads in the winter, need / desire to own a truck in the first place and a large dealer net work required to sell and maintain these vehicles for the original buyers.

Yup...I see them daily in and around my little desert community.

That is what I find interesting, my drive is from the agriculture line to downtown in my city and I tend to see them more around the outskirts.

Regardless of the region of the country they seem to have been preserved due to other factors like Forrestbump put so well.....

Perhaps I should have named the thread title......... “Best traffic, weather, luck, zoning, population and random factors for Bumps”
