Finally Picking up the '70 Crew

Post by dolinick »

I am finally going to pay for and pick up the '70 Crew Cab (short bed) today. If everything goes well or even if it doesn't I will let yall know how the trip went and post some photos. It is about a 113 mile drive and I intend to drive the Crew home.

Success! :woohoo:

The trip was pretty much uneventful. I got my retired uncle to go with me. I drove my 1974 Chevy Nova up to Round Rock, Tx. and my uncle drove the Nova and followed me back.

I have a couple of photos...

'Evening Dan,

I really like your photos--especially the first one of you with your new Crew'! Your facial expression says it all. I'd be excited too to become the owner of one of those unusual Fords.

Welcome to the world of crew cabs. The truck looks to be in pretty good shape. I am sure you will enjoy it.

It's funny how my uncle looks tiny next to the truck but I make it look small. And you may not notice it's a crew cab with me blocking the entire rear passenger door. It's pretty straight. It's a bit rusty which is scary. This could be my first "real" project. I never did much work on my vehicles as far as restoration goes. I think a little work will go a long way as far as the interior goes cosmetically speaking. I would like to remove the dash pad for now and just have a metal dash. I would like to remove the air conditioning unit completly including the compressor.

I have been working so much this week I haven't even looked at the truck during the daylight except this morning before I took the kids to school for half a minute. I took the wife out for a maiden voyage. She is not impressed. Said she won't take her photo with this truck. :( Hopefully she'll come around. It has a really bad exhaust leak. It has it's quirks. I am already learning. It starts real easy though. I love that. Automatic transmission, power steering and disc brakes are all things I never really had in a bump.

I might should order a windshield gasket. I probably can find a windshield at the bone yard.

Good morning Dan,

I can relate--Kasie usually prefers not to ride in #50. I think most girls simply do not favor these trucks, with a few exceptions. She objects to the noise and smell (of #50). :)

Looks like it's in better shape than the '69 shortbox c/c I just found. Hope he'll sell it to me...

Glad you made it Dan. That Cabelas that you stopped at has a car show every Saturday from 5 till whenever. If you could make it up I wouldn't mind seeing the truck again. I also have a few things I still need to give you for it. The back window in it is plexiglass and I have the real glass to replace that with.

I just noticed the back driver side door looks like plexiglass. I was wondering about it.
