2012 Daytona 500

Post by flyboy71 »

Yeah I know Im a few days early but when you're unemployed you get to watch the Duel races and all the other cool stuff so Ill start the thread early. Stewart takes the win in race #1. Danica took a hard lick to the inside wall on the final lap.

Kenseth takes the win in race #2

With all the changes this year it should be interesting. No two car tandems the entire race. :zz: I expect a lot of engines to fail due to water temps creeping near 300 deg. A few were during the duel. The reduced rear spoiler. I expect some major pileups and a lot of complaints about the changes afterwards.

Did anyone else like last years race better than any other race in the last five or so years? Any two cars running tandom racing instead of the herd rumbling around in circles? Seems NASCAR changed the cars so they have to run in packs and I heard they also made it so the cooling systems won't work in the packs making the cars move around to keep themselves cool. Sounds like a recipe for big wrecks...

Its true. The cars can't run tandem now like years past because the cooling systems have reduced capacity I think they said 2 gallons vs 5 so the temperatures will shoot up if they draft for too long. During the duel a number of cars had elevated temps as high as 280ish. As soon as they would tandem it wasn't long until they were shooting steam and had to break up. So yes they need to be separated and run in packs and anyone who gets out of the pack falls to the rear in a hurry. They also can't talk to each other directly now so they need to radio the spotters who need to talk to each other to tell the teammate what to do. They cut the rear spoiller in half so the cars are a little looser now with the reduced downforce. There were enough wrecks during the Bud Shootout and the Duel races that Sunday will be really interesting. Seems like a lot of changes in one season especially when they just flipped to fuel injection.

Too bad Ill be away tonite because they modified the truck series also a bit and that should be good to watch.

Roush starting 3 in the top four. Trevor starts 40th, I think. Shouldn't be there long. If Carl can amp up his intensity level a little this year, I think he could take it all. Rooting for Trevor or Carl in the 500!

Nothing like a good jet dryer inferno to make it interesting.
