Just purchased a '67 F100 and have a couple questions in the category of "What is This"
1. I was checking out the top of the cab and I saw something in the drip rail (terminology?) above the windshield and doors. I broke a piece off and it feels like plastic. Is this a part I should replace and what is it for?
2. The spare tire the guy had with the truck doesn't look stock for this model. The tire is a Federal Air Wing and the rim has a "1937" stamped on it. Is this from an earlier model pickup? Looks ooooold and interesting.

Get rid of that old flaking caulk. When it degrades like that, dirt and moisture collect. Hope yours hasn't rusted through yet. Derust and prime/paint as best you can to stop the rust.
Hard to tell, is that wheel a split rim? If you have hubcaps on the other wheels, will it fit this spare?
It is earlier since it uses the hubcap that snaps into the center of the wheel rather than around it. But its not from 1937

So after cleaning the rust and priming, I should replace that sealer or caulk? Where can one purchase this sealer? Does it come in a tube or is it a long strip that's pressed in?
I just did this repair to mine. Scrape all that nasty old caulking out of there. Do any prep work you need to wether is POR15 or some other metal treatment. or any rust through areas. Then I used a product made by REM. its a two part epoxy sealer that comes in a two tube in one setup and the tip mixes the two compounds. Its killer stuff. then allow to dry and paint over it.

No experience with seam-sealer, but I'd recommend a few coats of brush on primer first. Hard to get spray-cans to completely cover the inside of the drip rail. I ended up using a 1/2" natural bristle brush bent at an angle to make sure all that area is covered. Nice to have no overspray to deal with.
The 2 part stuff mentioned is great,(SEM brand?) if you want to go the budget route, a tube of Dap butyl-flex gutter and flashing caulk from Home Depot works well. it's a mineral spirits based sealer. Keep a rag soaked in mineral spirits handy, run a bead and smooth out with a wet, thinner soaked finger. It's really stringy, but cleans up and smooths out well, and is paintable in 7 days. I'd prime it before painting. Worked on my daily driver, and is holding up well 2 years later. Just my 2 cents!
I can tell you a little bit of info about that spare tire wheel. That is the pre-1953 Ford 15" rim design. Our bumpsides use the old 15" 5x5.5 steel rim design that lasted from 1953-1996. Your old wheel is probably F-1 pickup vintage(late 40s, early 50s). I just scrapped a rim just like yours but mine was almost rusted all the way through and the tire was rusted to the wheel at the bead(pain to remove!). Neat wheel though, don't get rid of it! They're getting hard to find. Sell it to someone who has a F-1 if you don't want it.

cool pinstriping on that wheel. they used that "innie" style wheel on trucks up to 64. in 65 they had the tabs on the outside of the ring for the new style hubcaps.
