Flaming River Steering column

Post by SomersMerc »

Hi
Does anyone have a Flaming River Steering column installed in their truck? I had one put in my 67 Merc by a shop and am not 100% satisfied. They said since it was a universal column that the wiring was all different. I even supplied the Ford wiring harness to go with it. Anyways it is ok but I think once I get my original column all fixed up, new internal parts, repairs, steering wheel fixed etc I might consider swapping it back. I have only had a chance to drive around the block once with the new column and wheel so I guess I need to give it more time before I make any final conclusions. Also the original steering wheel is over 17.5 inches and the new grant mahogany wheel is maybe 14". Hard to find many wood wheels with a diameter bigger than 14.5 with a 5 hole horn button. I used to have the larger wheel on my Biscayne that is simular to the mustang version but the horn button kept popping off therefore ingaging the horn contacts making the horn go off. This was bad considering it usually happened when I was in the house. I do like the feel and look of the thicker wheel and the wood/rivet look though. My 5 hole horn button also has 67 engraved in it.
