Title and registration woes!!

Post by comark »

I am coming to y'all hopin that someone has been through a similar situation. I know it's not a Ford but my dad bought a 69 Satellite. There is an extension of the title missing. The last transfer was back in 1986. Do y'all know of any way to get the correct paperwork or to at least find who the current owner is. The guy he bought it from didn't get it transferred. Any clue?!?!?

Need more info, like the location of the car and where the title was from and where it is now.

depending on where it is at you might be better off trying to get an abandoned vehicle title.

What state are you in? I dont hnow what "extension of title missing" is?? But if you are in Texas You file for a bonded title.
Fill out the paperwork and you get the title. I am doing this with a "79" dent I just bought..

:yt: Its the same way in Arizona, as long as the vehicle isnt reported stolen and there are no liens against it then its pretty straight forward. Call your local DMV and they should be able to walk you through exactly what you need to do.

The title extension is where you run out of room after its been transferred more than twice in this case. The car is from Texas and is now in Louisiana. The only two transfers on the title are from an individual to a car lot then from a car lot to car lot. This all took place back in 86. Hope this helps

So your in Louisiana? Like Swegner99 said your best bet would be your local DMV and follow their directions... as it is differant from state to state.

I know some states only require Bills of sale for cars from before a certain vintage, but does louisianna just keep stapling extensions on instead of a new title each time?

i am unfamiliar is why i ask becuase so far in 4 different states as long as you have a title with the sellers name or agents name on it, signed on it, witnessed in 2 of the states by a Notary of the public and your signature you get a new title. they keep a paper/digital file on who has owned said vehicle for so far back. but you get a new title.

it must be a doozey to get a vehicle after 500 people hjave owned itr in their names. what would that be 250 extensions? all stapled to the original title/ Manificturers Destination sheet?

Some states are pretty tough. In MO it basically has to be signed over to you, no if ands or buts. I've used title services numerous times because it can be darn near impossible without a notorized release from the last signer. Then if it's from out of state it makes it even harder. Just talk to your DMV (chat with the boss or someone knowledgable, not the counter person) and they will hopefully have a loop hole for you to use. Good luck!

File for a title history to see who it's titled too and contact them to gets new copy of the title. Give them $50 for their trouble.
